Who is Controlling the Chinese Military: Xi or Zhang?
The leadership of the Chinese military has undergone significant upheaval, and it remains unclear who is truly in control. The newly promoted Defense Minister and the Commander of the Rocket Force are rumored to be under investigation. Meanwhile, Beijing uncharacteristically announced the downfall of one of Xi Jinping’s key loyalists in the military, Admiral Miao Hua.
This news appears to support claims that Xi Jinping no longer holds control over the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and has ceded power to his Vice Chairman, Zhang Youxia. However, others argue that Xi is still firmly in control, and it is Zhang who has lost influence to Xi. So, who is really in charge of the Chinese PLA?
