The Curse of the Pharaohs is a supposed curse that affected those who disturbed the tomb of King Tutankhamun and other Pharaohs. This belief originated from Ancient Egypt the Ancient Stories Channel explores and suggests that interfering with the pharaoh's resting place resulted in misfortune or death. What do you think??
All right, everybody.
Welcome back for another deep dive.
Today we're going deep into ancient Egypt.
Ooh, really getting into some spooky stuff.
Okay.
I like spooky.
Yeah.
You know, you hear those whispers about ancient curses, especially the
ones around Egyptian tombs, you know, disturb a Pharaoh's tomb and bad things
happen.
Right.
We're going to be talking about all that today.
I love it.
The curse of the Pharaohs.
Yes.
Specifically, we've got an excerpt here from the ancient stories channel.
Okay.
All about the legendary King Tut.
Oh yeah.
King Tut.
Everyone's heard of King Tut.
Exactly.
We're going to get into it.
Are these curses real or are they just stories?
So, well, you know, curses, they're not just some, you know, random
superstitions in ancient Egypt.
Okay.
They were like really important.
So it wasn't woven into the fabric of their beliefs about death and the
afterlife.
So it wasn't just like a scary story to keep grave robbers away?
Not quite.
No.
Imagine you're an ancient Egyptian, right?
You believe that when you die, you're going on this incredible journey to
the afterlife.
You need all your stuff.
You need your treasures, your servants.
Oh, wow.
Even your pets.
They all got to come with you.
Wow.
Okay.
And that's where the curses come in.
Interesting.
They're like on the tomb walls.
Yeah.
Not just warnings, but almost like contracts.
Right.
Basically saying, hey, if you mess with this tomb, you're messing with some
powerful forces.
Don't touch.
Yeah.
And there will be consequences.
Oh, so it's like a supernatural security system, but with way higher stakes than
setting off an alarm.
Yeah.
You don't want to set off this alarm.
No, you don't.
But it's just so interesting that these stories, you know, thousands of years
later, they still capture our imaginations today.
Why are we still so into curses?
You know, I think it speaks to our like primal fear.
Okay.
That fear of the unknown, the things that lurk in the shadows.
Right.
Like think about that shiver that goes down your spine when you walk past an old
cemetery at night.
Totally.
Yeah, I get that.
I think we're drawn to those stories because deep down we wonder if there's
something more to them.
It's like watching a scary movie.
Yeah.
You know, it's not real.
Exactly.
But you still check under the bed just in case.
Oh, it's totally every time.
Right.
And speaking of scary movies.
Yeah.
King Tut's curse.
That really takes the cake.
Oh, for sure.
It's like a global phenomenon.
It's got its own brand.
Right.
Like everyone knows about King Tut's curse.
Yep.
Why do you think his stories become so iconic?
Hmm.
Well, think about when his tomb was discovered.
Okay.
Early 1900s, right?
Exactly.
Yeah.
The world was on the brink of war.
Right.
There were huge social and technological changes happening.
And then boom, this incredibly well-preserved tomb just emerges from the sand.
Crazy.
Full of golden treasures.
It's like a portal to another world.
Yeah.
And the media went wild.
Yeah.
It was the perfect time for a good curse story.
Precisely.
And then there were all the rumors.
Right.
About people connected to the Excavation getting sick or dying.
Under mysterious circumstances.
Yeah.
Which of course just fueled the frenzy.
Totally.
Even though many of these events have perfectly rational explanations.
Like what?
Well, take Lord Carnarvon, the financial backer of the Excavation.
He died from an infected mosquito bite.
Okay.
So not supernatural.
Right.
Not exactly a curse.
No, but at the time.
But in the context of the curse, it becomes another piece of the puzzle.
Right.
Because everybody's looking for, you know, evidence to confirm what they already think
is true.
Yeah.
So really, what's the real story here?
Well.
Was it all just hype and coincidence?
Yeah, there were some unfortunate events around the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb, but
there's no scientific basis for a curse.
It's more about how our minds work.
What do you mean?
Well, we tend to look for patterns and connections, especially when we're faced with
something mysterious.
Yeah.
Like an ancient tomb.
We love a good mystery.
We do.
And this is where it gets really interesting.
Okay.
Because if we can accept that curses aren't scientifically real, then why are we still
so fascinated by them?
That's a good question.
Like, why does the idea of King Tut's curse, or any curse for that matter, continue to
grip our imaginations?
What does that tell us about ourselves?
Oh, wow.
About our relationship with the past and the power of stories.
Those are some great questions.
Really something to think about.
Well, thanks for joining me for this deep dive into the world of pharaohs and curses.
My pleasure.
Who knows, maybe you'll unearth some answers of your own out there.
We'll see you next time.
