A historical preview of WORLD RECORD: Installing a Turbo Engine on a 1400CC Inline 4 Cylinder - Discover the ICON SHEENE, a tribute to MotoGP legend Barry Sheene. This motorcycle combines a Suzuki 1400cc engine with a Garrett turbocharger, producing 250 BHP and 133 lb-ft of torque2. Hand-built with custom parts, it's a blend of history, performance, and exclusivity, limited to just 52 units. Perfect for road and track, it's a true masterpiece of engineering.
Who doesn't know the Suzuki Hayabusa? Yes, the fastest motorcycle of the 1999 era.
A phenomenal creation from Suzuki. But what happens if the GSX 1400 engine is equipped
with a turbocharger? It will definitely increase performance and maximum power significantly.
Okay, in this video we will review this masterpiece motorcycle with a powerful
engine and turbocharger design that embodies the philosophy of its speed.
Before going further, let's look at the story behind the creation of this motorcycle.
So, in 2010, a British entrepreneur, Andrew Morris, had a vision to create the best road-going
motorcycle and also wanted to pay tribute to his childhood hero by creating the ultimate road bike.
The result is the Icon Sheen, the most expensive and most powerful production motorcycle in the
This motorcycle is to honor Barry Sheen, a MotoGP racer in the 1970s.
At that time, Sheen was the most successful racer and a star of his era. However,
fate had other plans, and Sheen passed away in 2003 due to cancer. To commemorate Sheen's
achievements at that time, Andrew Morris was determined to create a motorcycle that was not
only great in design, but also powerful in performance.
The project was warmly welcomed and fully supported by the Sheen family,
with each motorcycle to be produced featuring Stephanie's, Barry's wife's signature on the tank,
along with her late husband's signature. To maintain exclusivity, this motorcycle is only
produced in 52 units. Interestingly, some parts of this motorcycle are custom handmade,
requiring high precision and thus adding prestige and exclusivity to the motorcycle.
The concept of Icon Sheen is a motorcycle that can be legally used on the road,
and is also capable of racing on track circuits. For this, Andrew Morris invited Steve Parrish,
Barry Sheen's former teammate and longtime friend, to design this motorcycle. For the
engine sector, it uses the Suzuki GSX 1400 equipped with a Garrett turbocharger.
This engine was chosen for its outstanding performance and historical significance
in Barry Sheen's world championship victories with Suzuki motorcycles. The Garrett turbocharger
was chosen to provide extra power, making this motorcycle even stronger and faster
in various road and track conditions. The Garrett turbocharger has a maximum boost of 0.4 bar.
With these specifications, Icon Sheen is claimed to be one of the fastest and most powerful
motorcycles in the world at that time, capable of producing 250 brake horsepower with 133 pound
feet of torque. The racing pistons from Wazeco are paired with connecting rods from Corella.
This motorcycle has a six-speed transmission and is equipped with a quick shifter,
allowing for faster and smoother gear changes without needing to reduce the throttle
or use the clutch. This provides a more responsive and dynamic riding experience,
both on the road and on the track. From the engine sector, we know that this motorcycle is
very fierce and powerful. To tame that power, it is built with a custom-made tubular aluminum chassis
designed by Spondon Engineering. The swingarm is custom handmade and includes features like
an axle lifting system and a novel integral polished hugger. In the suspension sector,
Icon Sheen is equipped with 17-inch carbon fiber wheels like those used in MotoGP races.
The rear suspension is a fully adjustable monoshock made by Bitubo,
and the front forks are also upside-down models made by Bitubo. To stop this motorcycle,
it is equipped with a double-disc braking system with six piston calipers in the front
and a single disc in the rear. Okay, here we go then. This is the Icon Sheen bike. This is a
107,000 pounds motorcycle, one of the most expensive production motorcycles ever made.
52 of them will be built, and this is MotoGP pundit, staff, former factory rider, and former
teammate. Interestingly, almost the entire frame and body of Icon Sheen are handmade. The chassis
and tank are made from aluminum. In an interview with Motorcycle News, Andrew Morris stated that
the tank alone took almost a month to make. He also described the design of Icon Sheen as similar
to a bulldog with a muscular body but very agile in maneuvering, making this motorcycle worthy of
being called a heavy superbike. Additionally, each buyer of this motorcycle gets the opportunity to
meet the development team and Steve Parrish, Barry Sheen's close friend. Not to mention,
each ordered motorcycle features unique playing card artwork painted by Mike Fairholme,
who usually painted Barry Sheen's helmets. In total, there are 52 cards representing all
these motorcycles. Since this motorcycle is equipped with a turbocharger, special mapping,
data cabling, a hand-built oil cooler, a hand-built frame, a handmade tank that took almost a month to
make, and various other electronic features, it's no wonder the price is also fantastic.
Icon Sheen is priced at 172,000 pounds, which is approximately $216,239.
