Guys, the pigeons found us. Oh boy. One of them found us and then 20 of them found us
Get on out of here now
You took a feather from him
Good morning adventurers. Good morning. If you didn't catch our last video, we explored Venice a little bit
We had a little bit nicer of a day than today. Mostly it's just freezing out today
It's gotten really cold and a little drizzly. So the perfect thing to do on a nasty day
Is to just hunker down inside where it's warm and eat a bunch of food. Eat all that food
We are gonna make the most of our last day here. We have spots planned all over the dang city
I'm very excited. We haven't eaten as per usual. So we are nice and starving
Of course Venice is known for being pretty touristic and if you stay in the tourist center
There are a lot of people and there's a bunch of restaurants you can eat at there and we're gonna we're not really gonna be going
To specifically like super local spots necessarily, but we're definitely going to be getting outside of the tourist zone
So places are gonna be a little bit cheaper. Hopefully a little bit more authentic food, but also well within walking distance
Yes. All right. Let's go eat some breakfast
Our first stop is a pastry shop called Dolce Vita
We came, well to get coffee because we can't get enough of the Italian cappuccinos. Not quite the espressos yet
These are actually really delicious though
Yeah, we were gonna stand up at the counter, but we haven't quite mastered the art of downing
Yeah, chugging a coffee so we moved aside because there are a lot of locals in here
But we really came to get more croissants. These ones should be stuffed
We have some very delicious flavors coming and we were very sad when we first arrived because the case is completely empty
But we asked and they are about to bring out a new batch
We just saw them take it right out of the oven
So they should be about as fresh and amazing as possible
They have a plethora of different flavors to choose from in the case up there
We actually had her recommend a couple for us
So this is chantilly cream, which I'm not exactly sure what makes a chantilly cream
But it almost has like a custardy vanilla look to it
And then this one over here is filled with a pistachio cream
This one came highly recommended by her
Is the proper technique to bite it from the middle or from the end?
Like I don't want to go from the middle because I want all the cream. I don't know how much cream is in there
It's hard to tell
Holy cow, look how flaky this is
We should have gotten a plate
It's like a whole grain bread
You can see there's a bunch of seeds on the top a little dusty of powdered sugar
Which gives the outside a little burst of sweetness inside. It's so gooey and doughy
These are baked perfectly fresh all that delicious pistachio cream just gives you a burst of creamy
It's almost like pistachio peanut butter on bread. That's what it tastes like. It is so tasty. It's a very unique croissant experience
I'm gonna try the chantilly cream one
Although I'm gonna employ a different technique to rip from the side and dip it in there
You're right that these croissants are really
Interesting with the seeds and they do taste heartier and like whole grain in there. You can see they're
Much darker than a regular croissant is on the inside
That chantilly cream is like a really delicate butter cream or something it's so delicious
There's pigeons flopping in the background because if you look on the ground, there's nothing but crumbs and flakes from the all the croissants
I just tasted the pistachio one that might be might be my favorite though. It really is like peanut butter cream
I definitely reckon in that one. Y'all our whole breakfast cost is only five euros and ninety. I'd say that's pretty dang affordable
I am so glad that we got here at the perfect time to get these fresh croissants
This is the perfect start to the day, but we still have somewhere to see and do so much more to see
Almost had it. But we still have so much more to see and do let's eat these and then go
Before we head to our next food spot
We wanted to make a quick stop to the Mercado de Rialto
Which is this huge covered fish market that is open Tuesday through Saturday
there is so much fresh fish on display of so many different kinds lots of people buzzing around buying all sorts of fish and
Apparently a lot of the restaurants around will come here to get their fish for the day
So you can come here and see the stuff that you're gonna be buying later on at your restaurant
A lot of the local produce actually comes from a Venetian island called Salt Erasmo
Which is the largest of the Venetian islands and it's known as the vegetable garden of Venice
All of the seafood seems very very fresh and there's just so much to choose from and there's also just
Birds all over the place that are just scavenging for the fish
Some of the seagulls have made quite the score. They've run off with big ol' hunks of fish
We made a quick stop to a little bookshop called Aqua Alta, which means high water
Aqua Alta is this whole phenomenon that happens from I believe October
October till early spring where the waters rise in this city
Significantly and if the conditions are just right, it'll flood a lot of the city at least the lower
Level of a lot of the places will flood. I think we're gonna look out
I don't think it's gonna hit us
But we thought we'd come check out the bookstore because I think they have some books on the history of it
But it just sounds really cool. A lot of the books are just piled into old boats. Plus there should be cats
Hello there, I'm on a little book step reading a book
Book Mountain
This is a one of the coolest features I've ever seen in a bookshop though
This is definitely the coolest most unique bookstore that I've ever been in. It's a whole experience
There's so many little photo spots in here, too. Yeah outside inside. They've really done it up
I guess this floods every now and then or it did recently and they have a whole video people like wading through here still looking
For books but with their wellies on it's pretty wild and it's cool how they have all these boats stacked up
Some of them are just completely filled with books. I couldn't even tell some of them were boats beneath all the books
I think we found a kitty cat. We've been looking and looking we finally found
Next up we're continuing the cheap theme. We're heading to a place that specializes in fried items conveniently named fried land
Seeing all that seafood at the market made us crave some. The best part about this little place
They have not only fresh seafood that they fry to order, but they also have fresh pasta that they make in-house
It's only six euros. Actually the most expensive thing on their menu is seven euros and that's if you get real fancy
But it is cash only so make sure you hit the ATM up before you come here
We'll mark this one in the description below because you might actually miss it if you walk by there's the main thoroughfare over there
And then you have to walk down a smaller alley and then it's literally just this tiny little hole in the wall
But it smells really good in there. It says it's gonna be about 10 minutes. So he's really frying it fresh for us
You guys the pigeons found us oh boy one of them found us and then like 20 of them found us
Okay, the pigeons have dispersed a little bit this is the spot we're gonna try to try to hang
These are the most aggressive pigeons I've seen in a long time. I don't love it
They do have a little bar on the inside that you can eat up, but there were some people standing there
So we thought we'd risk it with the pigeons. We went with the fried mixed seafood
So it looks like we got some calamari some sardines some shrimp in there
You could do different variations of fried things though, or just fries. I really want to try one of these little sardines
I don't usually like sardines, but I mean when they're deep fried like this. They actually look pretty decent. I'll go for the calamari
Cheers. All right to fried land. Mm-hmm
It's actually quite good. Mm-hmm. That's really good
It's just a little bit fishy, but the batter that's on the outside
It's just thin and it's nice and delicate and really salty and flavorful
Yeah, it could be a little too on the salty side. It's pretty salty. I would suggest squeezing the limit on it
We couldn't quite get ours to squeeze. Try one of these little shrimp. Mm-hmm
Oh the calamari is actually pretty good. It wasn't too chewy or anything
This is definitely perfect if you're on a budget because you can walk around it's super cheap
It'll probably fill you up
But maybe eat it inside or go somewhere where there's not a horde of pigeons coming after you. We need a little sauce though
It definitely needs a little something something. Oh jeez
So it's super simple, but it is exactly what we paid for and it's pretty tasty. For dinner
We're gonna be trying some seafood. That's a bit more on the fancier end
Compared to this but we wanted to show you guys kind of the two different extremes
So you can be affordable and spend a little bit more money
We're sticking with the snack theme for our next item and we came and got these little sandwiches which are called
Trasimeno, I believe is how you pronounce it
But they're just these little triangle sandwiches typically with white bread
Although this one has brown bread and the crust is cut off and then it is stuffed with
Prosciutto or tuna or olives a lot of mayo all kinds of delicious things
And they're just kind of these tiny little bulging sandwiches that you would have as a snack or with some coffee or a little drink
In the afternoon and we found this little restaurant behind us
But these places are literally everywhere in the city. As you walk around just look for a place with a case and most of the time
They will have these little bulging sandwiches in there and the Italians will walk up
They'll grab the sandwich eat it and then walk away just like that
You guys are so good at just like inhaling whatever food or beverage you have and just getting on your way
This is about as simple as a little snack gets it's just a triangular sandwich with the crust cut off
It's actually adorable. Really white bread. I gotta say I don't have high expectations because I mean, it's just such a simple thing
It's just meant to keep you going I guess but I mean the ingredients look pretty fresh on there
So this is just like a meat and cheese one
Well
That is surprisingly tastier than I thought it would be the meat tastes really fresh and it has like a pepperiness to it
And it's nice and salty. The bread is actually decent bread. I was expecting just like classic bunny bread
But or maybe bunny bread is just awesome. That's exactly what this is. But this is actually really tasty
They actually have some pepper and some seasoning in there and that really makes it it adds a little burst of flavor
I literally thought it was just gonna be the taste of the meat and cheese
But I am pleasantly surprised by this little sandwich. This thing was two euro as well
So if you're in Venice on a budget, you know stick with these
I think I just got prosciutto mayo and artichoke on there. Although artichokes are pretty popular here
They're grown on the nearby islands. So I'm hoping at least those are fresh. I don't think I have any pepper though
Now I'm a little jealous of your peppery one
Well, I will say that meat is very flavorful but it is kind of just just like a ham and mayo
Sandwich, it's pretty pretty plain other than that. But I mean, it's really good
If you're wanting just a little light snack to have with a beer or a glass of wine or your coffee or anything like that
Just keep it going until you get to dinner and a lot of places like this will serve wine
You can just take in a glass and stand around and return the glass when you're done
Yeah, it's one thing we've really been digging about this city
They let you drink all around the canal, which is really nice. Then you get to have the epic views your delicious wine
It's perfect. All right, we're gonna enjoy our $2 sandwiches and I think okay
And then I think we are going to get that drink
We made it to the bar, it's this little place called Baccaretto da Lele. Look at the cutest little pour that we got
We actually were over in this area of town the other night and just happened to walk by here and saw all these people sitting
Out along the canal the weather was much nicer that night
So we pinned this place and it turns out it's this really cool bar in the University area
They have 70 cent pour, 70 euro cent. 70 cents for this, now it's petite but I'd say worth 70 cents though
Yeah, so apparently a thing here in Venice is to get these really tiny glasses
They do the wine and the beer like this and it's so that you can keep drinking all night without getting too plastered
I guess. Yeah, probably with not having to pee. Every place we've gone to today
None of them have had a toilet and the public restrooms are a euro 50
I know we complained about in our last video, but I mean a euro 50 is a lot
I gotta say. A lot!
And we couldn't even find a bar to go into to like get a drink and pee in. It's been a challenge
That's okay. Taste the wine, it's actually really good. It's like Cabernet
I mean Italian wine, it's delicious
So full disclosure we
I locked our keys in the apartment this morning. Our apartment door auto locks you guys. It's just a recipe for disaster
So before we head to our dinner spot, we have to go meet our host
We've actually been talking to her over text all day
She's been out of town, but she's gonna come back in to drop the extra set of keys or to just let us in, right?
Yeah, just let us in so we can get our keys back
Yeah, so we got to go meet her once we get back in to our so we have some place to stay tonight
Then we're gonna head to our dinner spot. Yes, and it'll be a very delicious dinner. I've been looking forward to it all day
So we met up with our host she kindly let us back into our apartment
We have our keys in tow now and now we are going to our dinner spot
It'll be our fanciest meal of the day, but still pretty affordable from what I have seen in my research
We just took a short walk over to Osteria Biavita
It is this super charming little restaurant. We have ordered a couple glasses of the local red wine
Yes, that's quite good. Very good. So they have a lot of
Regional wines we have put in our order and I cannot wait. We're ready. Yeah, they're a little
Off the wall flavors for us as far as pasta dishes go, but I think they're gonna be worth it
Our dishes have arrived
Mine is spaghetti with cuttlefish and the cuttlefish is stewed in its own ink and it all turns black
I'm not gonna lie every time I see it though. It's a little off-putting. I mean, it's black spaghetti
But I think it's gonna be pretty tasty there should be little bits of cuttlefish in here
Oh, there's one. All right, get a little piece of cuttlefish on there
It's actually pretty tasty it's just classic spaghetti with a
Fishy salty sauce on it. That's basically it and it's a little bit slimy, but that's the dish
I'm always a little afraid of dishes like this being overly fishy, but this one is not super fishy
It's just got like a nice salty subtle fishiness taste to it. It's pretty good
These are the little bits of a cuttlefish that are just kind of mixed into the spaghetti
Wow, it's really good
Wow, that is so good. It's almost like the texture of
Mushroom or if you look in there, it almost looks like slightly like chicken
It's just got a really dense kind of texture on the inside. What's the dish that you got?
Mine is bigoli in salsa, which bigoli is essentially
It's like a wheat spaghetti mine has onions and I think it's salted and stewed anchovies in there
I think Eric might have one but I'm gonna give it a go because this is apparently one of the like most
Traditional dishes you can get in Venice. You should see it on quite a few menus. Oh, it smells like fish
There we go
Okay, so one thing I didn't really realize is there are the teeniest tiniest little bones down in here
I don't know if you can kind of see they're really feather like bones almost hair like but they if you get it
Just right. It gives a little poke. I think the flavor is actually really good
I was really scared because I like seafood but not when it's too fishy
But this is so salty and the pasta is so delicious and it's so
Thick it's just really hearty because the anchovies are stewed with the onions. It's got a really nice flavor to it
It's more dynamic than just the fish, you know
a lot of people say that the trouble with these ink based dishes is just that the ink
Gets all over your face and it makes you look a little crazy, but I really haven't had that problem
Look at my napkin you guys. Am I an auto mechanic or did I just eat a bunch of ink?
It's no telling. We did it. We got dessert. We actually ended up going with tiramisu, which is not necessarily
From Venice, but it is from this northeastern region of Italy. So I think it's close enough. I imagine it's gonna be pretty tasty
Oh my god
Oh my gosh, so it's got this amazing layer of chocolate powder on there you can see it's so creamy
It's got a little bit of the biscuit in there
This was the most delicious idea, oh
My gosh, it's so creamy
The cakey part in there is just it adds a nice little texture to it
The cocoa powder on top is like dark chocolate. Oh, it is really nice
I think I just only had bad tiramisu in my life. I did not know it could be this good. Oh
All right, but that'll do it for us
I don't think we could possibly fit anything else in our bellies if you guys have any favorite dishes here or any
Favorite restaurants that you like going to when you come in to visit Venice. We are actually off to Rome tomorrow
So there's our final day and then we'll be I think in the south for a couple weeks
So I'm excited got some cool stuff playing. There's still a lot more of Italy to see so much more
I mean, we're here about a month. I don't think we'll see all of it
But I think weather better weather will be down there. Okay, it's
Good night adventures. We'll see on the road
