Good morning.
Thank you for being with us.
Good morning.
Thank you for having me.
All right.
Now, this seems like a huge topic and daunting, so I'm really glad that we're getting into
it.
You've got some great examples for us as well.
But first, talk to us about the power of having good insurance.
Unfortunately, often you don't realize you don't have good insurance the moment it's
too late.
So taking a proactive approach and having a really good, educated advisor will really
help close that gap for you.
Yeah, because you don't want to figure out that you don't have what you need after the
Absolutely.
All right.
So you're going to help empower us with some knowledge, and we're going to play a little
true or false when it comes to insurance.
So let's get started.
What's the first question you have?
OK.
So the first question for you is, if a neighbor's tree falls onto your home, is it their claim
to file?
It's my claim to file because it fell on my house.
So that is correct.
So it is not your neighbor's claim.
It's actually your claim.
Your property, your claim.
So if a tree falls on your auto or your home, but it's your neighbor's tree, unfortunately,
it is your claim to file.
Even if it was their tree that fell on my property.
That is correct.
That doesn't feel right, Denise.
But OK.
But we need to know what all this means.
You do.
That's why you're here.
That's right.
We've got to understand this.
OK, so what's the second one?
OK.
Life insurance is only for the young and healthy.
You know, I want to do this right in the middle because you hear such conflicting information
like, yes, you need to get it when you're young.
You can't get it when you're older.
So what's the right answer?
So although it is rated based on your age and your health, there are a lot of different
coverages for all of the stages of life.
And you don't have to be skinny and healthy.
You can have lots of different occupations.
You can have some medical conditions.
The most important thing is that if you if you need it, you get it.
You try to get it.
Yeah, because I feel like a lot of people are intimidated by the whole life insurance
thing.
There are so many misconceptions that it is too expensive or not for you.
And really just sitting down with someone who's educated can really help guide you
through that process.
All right.
So what's the next question?
OK.
True or false.
There are three different styles of collision in the state of Michigan.
False.
So collision insurance isn't car insurance.
So collision insurance is a part of your full coverage auto policy.
And there are actually three different kinds of collision in the state of Michigan.
Each one carries its own cost associated.
It carries its own when coverage occurs or when it doesn't.
And so it really allows you and your advisor to create a plan that makes the most sense
for you.
OK, so this is one of those times when we talk to someone like you and say, OK, how
do I sort this out?
Right.
Because I didn't even know that there were this many different types of collision insurance.
Yeah.
So, I mean, each one, again, carries its own cost and its own risk, if you will.
But then it allows you to create a plan and a policy that makes the most sense for you.
And that can change as you change.
Yeah.
This is why you need to talk to someone.
All right.
So let's get to the last one.
OK.
One, I should say.
True or false.
Water that comes up through your floor drain in the basement or if your sump pump stops
working is considered flood water.
If read it again.
So if water comes up through the floor drains in your home or let's say there's a big storm
and your sump pump stops working because the power goes out or because there's just too
much use.
Right.
What is that water in your basement considered flood water?
Yeah, it's a flood.
It's a flood of water.
Right.
So although it might seem like it's a flood of water and well, and technically it is,
it's actually not considered flood water.
So.
OK.
It is not.
Flood water would be outside water that comes into the home from like the windows or from
the door.
It's outside water in this coverage is a specific coverage on a home policy that has to have
an endorsement for you to cover it.
So you can cover it.
It's very standard on home insurance policies, but you have to pay extra and you have to
address it based on how finished or furnished your basement is.
All right.
So this is something you need to know, because I would think water in the basement, that
means it's a flood.
Right.
It's not exactly.
No.
All right.
So what's the next one?
OK.
True or false.
The liability on both my home and my auto policy protects my personal assets.
My home liability.
Yes.
True.
Yes.
Good.
Absolutely.
So that piece on both of those policies protects your current earnings, future earning potential,
your financial fidelity.
So making sure you have the appropriate level to meet where you are now and where you could
be in the future is very important.
All right.
She's so glad I got one.
Right.
And actually, Denise, thank you so much for sharing all this great information.
Absolutely.
