The role of the Queen of the Night should be sung, in my opinion, by a dramatic coloratura soprano and not a light or light lyric soprano. She is a powerful, authoritative and influential character who requires that drama, lost today with the fashion of light singers; and at the same time she must have agility to reach the high notes, such as the F that I have indicated in the score. Deutekom plays her role well, as does Edita Gruberoba.
