Eris is an evil deity, therefore considered the goddess of discord.
There are two versions about the identity of her parents.
According to Hesiod, Eris was the daughter of Nix, the knight.
Homer claims that the goddess was the daughter of the ruling couple of Olympus, Zeus and Hera.
Therefore, she would be the sister of Ares, the god of war,
with whom the goddess was an inseparable friend.
She liked to spark disagreements among men and even among gods.
Almost all conflicts and disputes were influenced by the goddess.
In a famous episode of Greek mythology, Eris was not invited to the wedding party of Peleus,
father of Achilles, with the sea deity Thetis.
The winged goddess flew over the table at which the gods were seated during the banquet.
She dropped a golden apple, with the inscription,
To the most beautiful.
Athena, Hera and Aphrodite fought over the apple,
for each of them thought she was the most beautiful.
Zeus ruled that the Trojan shepherd Paris would decide the most beautiful,
and that choice gave rise to the Trojan War.
This apple became known as the apple of discord.
Eris united with the titan Aether, and with him she had an evil offspring.
The goddess gave birth to fourteen demons, which are divine spirits.
But they were all nefarious personifications of the evils that plagued humanity.
Such as hunger, pain, lies, hatred, among others.
Therefore, Eris was also known as the mother of evils.
Along with her children, Eris was part of Ares' procession.
The goddess would go around the world helping her brother,
creating conflicts between men and nations.
This way the god Ares could indulge in bloody wars.
Eris, with her chaotic nature, continues to roam the world,
generating disagreements and quarrels.
