Second video of our Korea series and time for some Korean Street Food! We are in Seoul, South Korea checking out one of the city's most famous markets, the Gwang Jang Market. We are trying some iconic and popular Korean dishes! Which one would you love to try?
in this video do you always kiss your food before you eat it we are checking out more of seoul south
korea i'm too big for this country and trying some iconic and popular korean street food for the first
time so for our next stop we're walking around this moat this channel they built here in the city
it's a little below the street level and it gives it a little bit of calm here which is quite nice
and a lot of people are walking here but on our way to gwangjang market which is a big local street
food market and fresh market i think pretty much in the city center um we heard that it got a little
touristy but we should see for ourselves yeah see how it is if i fall into this cold ass water
i will be so sad the gwangjang market is one of the oldest and largest traditional markets
in south korea with more than 5 000 shops it used to be a market for agriculture and seafood
but has transformed into a large market full of everything from fruits and vegetables
to meat and seafood to prepared food and street food and even souvenirs and custom clothing
however we are here for the food and the first food item we wanted to try had to be a type of
korean pancake all right we got what i wanted we got the pancakes so we got a meat mung bean
pancake i've never seen this before because i always get the seafood one in the u.s
so i'm curious what this is going to taste like with a mung bean was a very popular option they
have a rotating thing for them it's a grinder probably yeah a grinder and then they have the
paste in there they're frying it right then and there there's a whole bunch of them and there's
at least like 10 stalls that are serving a lot of these different pancake variations
you have mung bean only you have meat mung bean then you have seafood you have shrimp ones and
this was 6 000 won for the whole pancake it's four quarters here we went with this one i'm
gonna give it a try look at it nice fry on there let's go who doesn't love fried dough
i love fried food doesn't need sauce though it could use some sauce but it doesn't need any
it's definitely a little oily you can tell it's been fried then and there but
it has this nice flavor it's not quite crispy it's very jelly see it's very squishy texture
but it has this nice golden brown to it
we definitely taste the meat i think the meat was a good option because it gives it this saltier
flavor so there are onion chunks in there you have the meat you have mung bean i think it's
pork definitely pork in there but you can see how greasy it is my fingers are all
oily that's why they give it to you in these cups
yeah but with filling with other things added to it that's definitely a potato pancake dude
that's so nice very hearty heartier than it looks very good i like that no wonder they're everywhere
we continued walking through the main food section with more and more food stalls everything
looked so good but it was definitely getting busier so interesting setup we just walked in
and along the whole walk line here people are just sitting and eating and it's a lot of these
yeah stars they cook right there and then they hand it out that's quite cool
the energy set is probably just gonna get busier so we should hop into one as soon as we can i think
and it's tight i'm too big for this country we saw some people leaving so we hopped on it and
squeezed into the available seats so we could try some more iconic korean dishes all right so we're
here at the guanjiang market and there's a lot of food here there's a lot of other things you can
buy but there's a ton of street food and there are these little stalls that you can come and sit
at and we decided to try some stuff at one of them we have these iconic rice cakes and i feel like
these are like one of the staple dishes in general in south korea these full glibbery jelly-like rice
cakes and i love these and they're called tear boki i think i'm not sure we have similar ones
in chinese that i've eaten a lot with some like beef and carrots is one of my cousin's favorite
dishes but we're gonna give these a try thank you just got handed more dumplings here so it's
this nice slightly spicy tomato based sauce that covers it but look how thick this is it's so jelly
like it has a squishy texture when you eat it which i love and it's so good so this was 3 001
for this plate it's not too shabby under three dollars three euros yeah 210 all right and the
thing we've gotten is a mixed plate of dumplings i think they're boiled yes there's kimchi ones and
this is i think meat based hey i like the shape here uh we tried dumplings once here uh in this
restaurant yesterday evening i like that they're a little thicker here a little bigger thicker
dumplings how they fold it is a style that i have not seen before a lot so just dip it i will assume
this is soy sauce so yummy nice it's a typical dumpling filling i think there's some minced meat
in there but then also these glass some spring onions oh glass noodles in there too nice very
herbal flavor but also the minced meat but overall very light filling and look how it's steaming i
think today we're just having 10 degrees celsius so it's cold still for us coming from malaysia
but the overall thing is such a different vibe man i'm gonna try this red one this one looks
this is kimchi we ordered a mixer i'm trying to order in korean i don't know anything i'm
struggling oh yeah look at that that's a beautiful color oh man dude i'm kimchi is really
growing on me since we arrived here a couple days ago i'm usually not the biggest kimchi fan but the
flavor is often a good contrast to these warm hearty meals because it's so light and fermented
i like the dough a lot they're a little bitier than usual 5,000 won i love filled dumplings as
a kid whenever we made dumplings i always overfilled mine so i'm going to give this
minced meat one a try i'm trying one of the tteokbokki i think look at man a little
steaming i do like the addition of these glass noodles in these dumplings it still has like that
spring onion this lighter flavor with the minced meat but these glass onions give it a little more
of a filling which i really like i'm surprised this ketchup looking marinara i hope it has a
bit of a barbecuey flavor to it and curry as well it's a little bit spicier but curryish yeah it's
nice so just to give you an idea we sat down at one of these small stalls and they're all along
the market line there's always somebody preparing the food right in front of you which is quite
cool and you just sit on these little benches and they are heated as well so it's funny and
this seems to be like the thing to do at the market all these lines the stores have pretty
much the same food they offer but then there's also little shops on the outside and we might
we continued through the market passing more food and seafood for sale the food section was
getting busier and busier by the minute so we decided to walk over a few lanes to see what
else there is all right looks like it's not just food but blankets are a very popular thing yeah
there's a lot of shops selling blankets and pillows a little bit of clothing as well judging
by the busyness of the food section and how chill this one is people definitely come more
so here for the food we continued down the less crowded areas passing other stalls with pickled
vegetable variations packaged dry foods for sale and even medical supply stalls we somehow ended up
on the other side of the market with an apparently popular donut stall so it looks like that stop
right there it sells something called twisted donuts and i thought that's the line but no
this is the actual waiting line it goes all the way over there so this has to be something
very special would you like to queue are we waiting for a donut i don't think so i don't
think so line keeps going we did want some type of sweet dessert so we head back into the busy
market in search of something that phil saw earlier and while we make our way back into
the market don't forget to like the video and subscribe to our channel for future food and
travel videos if you want to further support us we have a patreon at patreon.com slash yan and

jessica saransak jeff standen debbie and ray gordon micah man and james love camp thank you
all for your support and now let's eat it definitely feels like one of the more touristy
sections we went to there's a lot of people but they have a lot of interesting things they have
a lot of blood sausage which as a german he's not too unfamiliar with there's a lot of seafood
there's a lot of octopus here there are a lot of like pork knuckles there's a lot of gimbap these
seaweed rice rolls but there's one more thing that we might get before leaving because i really like
them so we'll try them because there's always room in our stomachs for dessert all right so we're
walking around korea right i see these things everywhere fish shaped pastries and it's these
cake looking things look at that it's a little cup or something this side looks healthy it's cute
they have these literally every street food market and in a lot of shops as well and different sizes
these are on the smaller side that's where you get four of them for 3001 and it's a pastry thing
in dough we get two two this one i think it's red bean we have two red bean you just go for the tail
you're eating his tail first so this is red bean paste it's very popular throughout eastern asia
and it's something that i grew up with but you as a german did not right that's true i did not
grow up with red bean paste it's sweet and i kind of like it i don't know it grew on me over time
these are very nice they're super fresh he puts the dough in there in these like iron cast form
yeah and then he bakes it right there but i actually wanted to try the custard one which
is his cousin here this one looks a bit like he's upside down a little flat on this side i'm going
do you always kiss your food before you eat it yes hot oh you can see the steam from your mouth
dude i think the custard one is the way to go look at it you have nice yellow custard in there
it's uh definitely super hot looks very thick look how it's steaming man yeah and we actually
have one of these shops in dusseldorf we walk by all the time and i'm like what are these fish man
people are getting everywhere and when you walk around the pedestrian zones so many people just
walk by nibbling on these this seems to be like one of the korean desserts out here and i do now
understand why they're really nice so as a kid i grew up with red bean paste it's very familiar
to me and i never liked it as a kid i think because there's a whole bunch of other desserts
in the u.s that are sweeter this is not really like super sweet if you're comparing it to a lot
of like the american desserts but as an adult now i've learned to like it i think it's awesome
now i'm craving some red bean paste but we are gonna have to continue in another video where we
try more korean dishes for the first time and see more of the city of seoul as always thank you so
much for watching and we'll see you in the next one bye also you'll notice a lot of plastic over
the plates so they can just reuse it
