Oman and Iraq are both desperate for all three points as they meet for the second time on
Matchday 6 in Group B, this time in Muscat at the Sultan Qaboos Sport Complex.
The hosts currently sit in fourth after a 1-0 win over Palestine last time out, just
two points behind Iraq, who had to settle for a goalless draw against Jordan.
A win for either side today could potentially be a massive step towards qualification.
Rashid Jaber makes just one change to the starting eleven that beat Palestine five days
ago with Tani Rousheidi replacing Abdulaziz Alshamouzi at right-back.
Jesus Casas goes for three changes as Youssef Amin comes into midfield and Hussain Ali comes
in at right-back.
Zidane Iqbal starts in holding midfield alongside Manaf Younis.
Nearly quarter of an hour gone, Amin pretty even so far, maybe a chance for the opening
goal here for Ayman Hussain, gets past the keeper and finds the back of the net but the
flag does go up straight away.
Melchior Stoski with the through ball, just setting off a little too early, clearly offside
in the replay though.
27th minute of play, Amin all in red coming down the left wing here, initial cross is
blocked, however Iraq not dealing with the danger and Amin nearly snatching the lead.
Abdullah Fawaz, Ahmed Bazil, that's a full stretch, didn't look too confident there did
he?
Ten minutes to go before the break, lovely work, just outside the box, back into the
middle and we have our first goal of the game.
Youssef Amin putting the finishing touches on a great team move, Alaibi to Yassin, across
to Amin and the 21-year-old Alweda striker makes it 1-0.
The cameras not quite keeping up with play, thankfully we do have slow motion replays
to show us exactly how it all unfolded here.
Great chance for Amin, towering header from Rushaid but cleared off the line so 1-0 at
the break for the visitors.
Early into the second half, free kick for Iraq, looking to find a second denied by the
woodwork.
I think it came off the Amin defender, Al-Khamisi, it's a wicked delivery, it does come off Al-Khamisi
last and clashes off the crossbar.
One hour still to go, Iraq looking a little stronger here in the closing stages, chance
to make it two, he skies the effort over the crossbar, what a chance that was for Mohamed
Nadali.
There was a time in the world but just couldn't keep it down, Al-Rushaidi with the delivery
and it's a great cross, Al-Sabi, full stretch just couldn't get there, did well to stay
onside.
Final minutes of the game, can Oman salvage something here, it's another good cross, a
dipping header, just wouldn't dip enough though, Khalid Al-Braki getting his head
to the ball, might have been put off by Al-Sabi who was going for it as well, up and over
in the end.
Deep into stoppage time, Iraq with a chance to really seal the deal here, with just seconds
left, wasted opportunity in the end, Al-Muhaimi able to smother the ball just before it crosses
the line, doesn't matter though, Iraq hold on for all three points and now sit in second
place, just three points behind group leaders Korea Republic, Oman remain in the running
for qualification in fourth but will still need to pick up points to secure their ticket.
Final score, Oman nil, Iraq one.
