So you've booked that 15 hours long flight to the other side of the world huh?
The modern day endurance test where you sit in a cramped space metal tube
with strangers, recycled air and the occasional baby whale.
Unless you've forked out a small fortune for one of those fancy first class cabins
where you can enjoy hotel-like comfort.
Privacy, gourmet food, fine wine and enough room to actually sleep.
Good for you.
Enjoy your ride.
For the rest, the majority percent of unfortunates fighting for armrest space
and trying to survive on peanuts and pretzels, keep watching.
This guide is for you.
Here are some survival tips to get you through that marathon flight
without losing your sanity.
Starting off with some pre-flight rituals
because preparation is half the battle right?
Starting off with booking.
Book your seat as soon as possible
because we are telling you the battle for the window versus aisle is real
and nobody wants the dreaded middle seat.
If you value sleep and want to lean against something, go for the window seat.
If you're a frequent restroom visitor or like to stretch, opt for the aisle seat.
Dress code, comfort over catwalk.
Think of your sweatpants, hoodies and the comfiest socks you own.
You're not here to impress, you're here to survive.
Keep in mind that airplane temperatures fluctuate, so be ready with layers.
Trust us, nobody ever said, I wish I wore tighter jeans on this flight.
Pack smart and keep it minimal.
Noise cancelling headphones, neck pillow, eye mask and a travel blanket are a must.
Bonus points for packing a face mask to keep that skin hydrated.
Oh and don't forget the hand sanitizer because germs are everywhere.
Bring a reusable water bottle.
Airport security hates liquids but your body needs it.
Fill it up after security to avoid the tiny cups the flight attendants hand out.
Another important tip, get moving.
Hit the gym, go for a run or do some yoga the day before.
It helps improve circulation and reduce the chance of cramps during the flight.
Plus you'll sleep better if you're a bit tired.
Check in online, save yourself from standing in line at the airport.
Also, download your airline's app for real-time updates on your flight status and gate changes.
You're now boarding and the reality hits, right?
But hey, at least you came prepared.
You know, you should hydrate and drink plenty of water.
But what about the food?
Airline food is hit or miss.
Pack your favourites, think protein bars, nuts and fruit.
Keep it healthy to avoid feeling sluggish.
Download movies, shows, music and ebooks.
Netflix, Spotify and Kindle apps are your best friends here.
Move it or lose it.
Keep that blood flowing.
Bonus points for doing it without elbowing your neighbour.
Take a stroll every couple of hours.
Don't forget to pack and bring mini toiletries.
A small kit with toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant and moisturiser
can make you feel human again after hours in the air.
If you're on a super long flight, consider a fresh set of clothes to change into before landing.
You'll feel infinitely better.
You survived your flight.
But wait, there are a few more things to do.
The most challenging one, beating the lag.
Adjust your watch to your destination's time as soon as you board.
Try to sleep according to the new time zone.
Get as much sunlight as possible to reset your body clock.
Natural light is your best friend.
