Local Style - Best Surf Breaks in Bali Indonesia, Episode 9
Let's go surfing and fishing. Oh yeah. Hope so.
We're launching a traditional Jukung boat from Parang Parang beach
to do a surf check along the Bukit Peninsula. Traveling local style.
This is Borangan beach, Balangan. It's one of the longer waves in Bali.
It can hold waves up to 15 feet. You can see there's a set coming in right now.
It's probably about four or six feet. All right. It's one of my favorites so hopefully we'll get
some out here. This is a freaking great run. Really really long clean left-hander today.
This is Dreamland beach. This is a perfect two-way peak. We have a little set coming in here.
Dreamland is the only wave that has a right and a left.
And it's a sand covered reef so it's not quite as sharp or dangerous.
So this is Bingen beach. What makes Bingen unique is every wave barrels. Every single wave that
comes through barrels from start to finish. What's not so wonderful about Bingen is the takeoff spot
is really small. So you can see everyone's grouped really close together and it can get
really competitive. Here we are at Impossibles and the reason it's called Impossibles is because
it's a really long and fast wave. Probably the fastest wave here. You want to get into the wave
and go as fast as you can and hopefully if you make it to the end then it becomes possible.
Now we're in the channel in between Padang left and Padang right.
Padang Padang is the real name and it's so good they had to name it twice.
This is one of the most sought-after waves on the island. Today it's really small. It's only
about three feet so you only have body borders out there because it gets really shallow. When
the waves are six foot or more this is the place where you can get the deepest, best barrels on
the whole island. This is where they have the whip curl contest. This is basically the wave that
everybody is trying to get. This is the number one spot on the island. My favorite spot. I have a
contract in my marriage that says when Padang is breaking that I drop everything.
There's a surfer out there. He looks like he's got what it takes. This is Uluwatu Temple. This
is the temple that gives the whole area its name. Here we are at Uluwatu. The final surf spot on our
little trip today. Uluwatu is the most consistent spot on Bali. It's the most famous spot on Bali
and people think of it as one surf spot but really there's like five spots. There's a million
things you can say about it but basically this is what brought me here. This is what kept me here.
This is where I fell in love and this is where I hope to live the rest of my life.
