We embark on a new journey in our Roadtrek Zion campervan and update you on the current status of the sale of Roadtrek brand to Rapido SAS, and how this impacts us as Roadtrek RV owners.
Hi everyone. So we are here at Lac Lejeune Provincial Park
and we're close to Kamloops about 35 kilometers south
and we want to cover a few topics in this video today.
First of all we'll talk about our plans for this trip.
It's a two-week trip. We're heading over to the Rockies
and secondly we'd like to give you a quick update on what's happening with
the road track situation that we've heard in the media.
Yeah we get a lot of questions from people about where's the road track, how's
the sale moving forward, so we thought we'd provide a short update for everyone.
And then thirdly we just want to show you at the very end
a clip of our trip to Rainbow Lake. Yeah we were at Whistler if you looked at our
recent Whistler video. That was one of the trips we wanted
to do. We couldn't fit it in that weekend so we scooted up and we've just done a
short video for those of you that are interested in
a hike at Rainbow Lake. So we hope you all enjoy this video.
The mountains are calling so we're off to Yoho and then Jasper.
Yoho is just sort of the other side of Banff on the other side of the Rockies
so that's going to keep us busy for about a week and then the next week we're
going to play by ear and weather I think.
We are settled into our campsite number 73
at Martha Creek Provincial Park and yeah we're really happy with our site.
It's gorgeous and we have a little bit peekaboo view of the lake.
It's late August on a Sunday and it's not a long weekend
so there's lots of first come first serve sites
and we actually drove through the reserved section which is
sort of north of the main area the main section
of the campground just to see what it was like but we
managed to find a few spots that weren't reserved so
it was good that we actually drove through. So this is a great spot
very private very quiet. There's some spots that are right on the water
which would be really nice and we're one level back. All the ones that were on the
water were still showing as reserved if there was no one there.
Still lots of vacant ones but they're showing as reserved.
So we just wanted to take the opportunity to give you an update
on the Roadtrek situation and Gordon's going to talk about that.
All right so we wanted to give you a short update a couple of things.
You may recall that in January or I think it was February we let everyone
know that Roadtrek may be purchased by the
Rapido Group in France and I'm pleased to say that that deal
has now gone forward. It closed I think in early July.
They're now hiring new employees they're moving to one of the factory locations I
think it's in Cambridge Ontario to begin manufacturing and they hope to have
models ready for the 2020 model year which is
fairly soon. So all very positive news and we're quite excited about the fact
that Roadtrek is going to be moving forward once again.
Now most of this information that we're talking about is actually in an article
and in a video from a company called RV Daily News. I think it's
rvdailynews.com and we'll put a link to that.
We're just giving you sort of a short overview and if you want a lot more of
the detail you should take a look at the article or the video that they
produced. With regard to the existing owners
Roadtrek has advised or repeat out through the new Roadtrek
has advised that they're going to be honouring warranties on existing models
but only for a two-year period. In addition there's a fifteen hundred
dollar fifteen hundred dollar Canadian cap on any warranties. Now that may be a
bit limited but given the circumstances and they had
no obligation no legal obligation to honour any
warranties I see it as a very positive step from the new company and I think
what's most important is the fact that Roadtrek is going to be up and running
producing many of the same models so there'll be a company producing some of
the same parts someone who dealers will be able to
reach out to if they have any questions about any of the repair work so all very
positive moving forward. The other thing that Roadtrek has noted
is that now going to produce less models than they did previously
they're going to still continue to produce the three Mercedes platforms
that's the RS the CS and the Agile and they're just going through a process
now with Mercedes to be certified once again.
In addition on the Promaster chassis they're going to produce the Zion like
we have and the Zion SRT and the other thing that
was noted in one of the articles is that they will begin looking at potential
production on a model on the Ford Transit chassis
which is a little longer than the Zion so that's exciting news I think for
everyone. The one thing two of the models that
weren't covered in the warranty were the two
the RS and the CS that actually had the four passenger seats installed at the
front. There are some challenges with regard
to how the additional two seats were installed
those are being dealt with in a separate issue I think with the receiver manager
under a recall process so that's not not part of the warranty process
and they've chosen to exclude those two models from
any warranty work going forward as far as we're aware.
So very positive steps productions moving forward they hope to have models
out for the 2020 model line and I'm sure we'll see some more
information. At this point in time their website is still
under construction so they hope to have a new website up and running very soon
and I know we're all looking forward to seeing what's on that website once it's
up and running. On a more personal note we just wanted to mention
a couple of issues that we've had with our Zion in the last little while
and one of them was I think we've mentioned before is our under hood
generator which stopped working and we did have to get that replaced and we had
to purchase a new alternator so we're hoping that we can get some
money back for that work. The $1,500 won't cover the the price
that we paid but we'll try to work with the new
owners and see if we can sort that situation out and the other
issue is we're still having intermittent problems with our lithium battery
switch and Gordon maybe you can talk a little bit about what's been going on.
Yeah so far if you if you follow our video you know we've had our battery
replaced under warranty some time ago one of the two.
The lithium batteries when they work work really well
but you see on Facebook and other sites there just often seems to be
little issues with them. In our case we have one of the newer battery
as far as I can determine the switch doesn't seem to work well. Sometimes we
flick it and it goes on sometimes it doesn't so we snap it or we
turn it on press reset start the motor for 30 seconds and it comes on.
I've tightened the wires that helped initially but it doesn't seem to help
anymore so we suspect it's just the switch that needs to be replaced.
The last time we had it at the dealer they couldn't find
an issue because it was working when we took it in. We got it back home and
it stopped working other than us fiddling to get it work so
hopefully we can get that fixed soon and it won't be expensive otherwise they've
been working relatively well. Yeah so we've got a
appointment for after this particular trip to get the switch
replaced and hopefully that'll resolve the issue but
we'll see what happens you never know. We really enjoyed our stay at Martha
Creek Provincial Park. It was our first time and our spot was
great. We'll be back. Yes oh the only issue we
had though was we had a mouse in the house last night we
got up at like three o'clock in the morning and it was darting around so
we suspect it came in through the furnace vent
and we're gonna go off to Revelstoke to find a
hardware store. Aby's left us or she. Hopefully.
We'll pick up a mouse catcher just in case. But now we're off to Yoho
National Park so we're gonna stay a few nights there so stay tuned for our
upcoming videos for continuation of this trip.
And in the event that we aren't able to get rid of the mouse maybe you can
comment and suggest a name for it. Yeah or a way to get rid of it. What was
the mouse in the uh the green mile? I like that mouse.
Yeah.
So
See the wild blueberries are starting to come out. Some there. Some there. Still a
little green. Some down here.
Not our usual lunch. Mushroom and vegetable buns.
and subscribe if you haven't had a chance to do so to our channel. We really
appreciate that. And we will see you next time. See you
from the mountains.
