Watch until the end to hear why THIS is important for everyone...
Good morning! I am in San Jose, Costa Rica for a very special reason I will tell you about.
But right now, me and my girl, my bike, we are going to see a friend of a friend
because he's going to take care of my bike for a little bit. So that's what's going on for now.
Welcome back to the vlog! I'm in Costa Rica and as I mentioned something special is happening
and I need to park my motorcycle for a bit. So a friend connected me to this very kind man,
Felipe, who offered to garage my bike and have his mechanic take care of her next servicing.
By the way, I can't tell you how grateful I am for the motorcycle community.
So with my bike safe and sound, I headed to my destination.
I'm here at the airport not to fly out but to pick up somebody really special.
So my dearest YouTube family, let me introduce you to my mom.
So today's episode won't be my typical motorcycle explorations
but a glimpse into my motorcycle life that includes the things closest to my heart.
So I hope you'll enjoy this mother-daughter duo adventure in Costa Rica. Polar sweater,
sweats and sweatshirt to 90 degree Costa Rica. Naturally, we started off the trip with a little
Spanish. I wanna learn some Spanish. You want me to give you a lesson? Yeah. But quickly,
I soon realized that would become an adventure on its own. Tell me what you know so far.
Hola.
Hello. What's up?
Oh, look at the plane. Already distracted.
This is gonna go really well. I think we'll table the Spanish for now. But at the end,
you'll see how she progresses or not. We'll see. So now, let's get the real adventure started.
So first, we took to the beaches of Manuel Antonio and got plummeted by waves. I'm watching
my mom go in and she just got barreled by a wave. And now she's walking back out like she's
had enough. She's been in there for like 12 seconds. You got the best of you? Yeah.
Next up, Manuel Antonio Park where there was a lot of animals.
Maybe we'll see monkeys.
It is definitely recommended to go with a guide because it's so much more fun and you'll see
so many more animals. They make it like one big treasure hunt and each new animal
feels like the next discovery. The best thing about Costa Rica is that the animals
really are all around you. But we did not expect them to arrive at our doorstep.
Where is he? Two of them. Right outside. Our room is here and the monkeys are here. It turned out
that every day around 4 p.m. a tribe of monkeys came by our balcony. Monkeys are back and they're
eating the bananas in the banana tree. And we quickly understood why in Manuel Antonio,
the locals call them the monkey mafia. Whoa. No. Jesus. What are you doing, you rat?
Oh my gosh. Careful over there. Hey buddy. Hey buddy.
While the monkeys brought great excitement to our little casita
in Manuel Antonio, we also sought adventure in the surrounding areas.
Day four. So our first of many adventures was kayaking. You ready mom? Hope so. Today's tour
was quite special because we are exploring an area that is only accessible by kayak,
which is Costa Rica's mangrove forest. The mangrove forest lives along the seashore and
is extremely important in nature as they absorb up to five times more carbon than regular forests.
They also protect the land from hurricanes and tidal surges by reducing the height of a wave
by two thirds. Clearly mangroves are quite strong and also really adaptable as they live in a mixed
fresh saltwater environment and grow their roots quite extensively while keeping their trunks above
water to breathe. I didn't manage to capture the footage of the animals we saw and we only barely
managed not to tip over our kayaks. Wait mom, don't go sideways. Dump yourself. But we sure did
enjoy it all. Perhaps so much so that we decided to hit up a second kayak tour. Although this time
in the sea. All right we're on day who knows what but it's our second time kayaking. This time on
the ocean. You look like an alien snorkeler. Strange looking fish we found here on this island.
For our next adventure it required a little more gear. Lots of carabiners here. Now we're getting
a little more wild with harnesses and helmets. Which by the way my peanut head never fits into.
Even though it didn't fit helmets were necessary for our
upcoming activities. Suited up ready to go.
What are we doing? Hiking. How do you think she'll do?
Okay here we go. So this weird mother-daughter duo are off to the jungle and about to test
our skills at new heights. But before we get to the treetops we encountered your typical
amazing jungle treasures.
Really smells like a leaf. It is a leaf.
Oh I don't know. I guess we're not quite sure but it's not.
Are you recording? Yes. Do you like games Tommy? The jungle games? Yes.
It's called touch, feel and get. Oh no. There's an animal in there. No. You have to touch it.
Why not? Oh my god. No I'll go with a stick.
Mom is over here getting high on the amines. Makes me calm.
You can do it.
Made it. How did you do? Pretty fast. You didn't shock? Yeah I was scared and then I saw that big
wood block and I said I'm gonna hit that 90 miles an hour. You know I don't trust anything.
That's your problem. Oh. Are they talking about that suspension thing? Oh my goodness.
That's our exit. What do you think mom? He's definitely scared. I know that.
What do you think?
Yeah. Excellent.
Oh my God.
You're next mom.
Woo!
Okay.
Adios.
Woo!
I mean, I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do it.
You're next mom.
We saved the best for the last.
Oh, uh-oh.
It's 42.
Yeah, it needs to go.
Did you do it or not?
I did terrible mom.
I'm looking up.
Oh my God.
Sit.
I can't get up.
You didn't hold it.
It's a lot.
so it became time to say goodbye to Manuel Antonio and before we began to
get off the beaten path we had one more excursion which happens to be one of the
most unique places on the planet to get to the next destination we hopped on a
boat because this place is only accessible by water it's called Coro
Vado National Park and you must take a boat to a bay for accommodation and then
another boat to the entrance of the park it's fun because you exit the boat
right into the water to get to your accommodation so this is not a place to
bring your rollie bag
nice to meet you another adventure where are we
so the reason Coro Vado Park is so special is because it's been labeled as
the most biodiverse place on earth it's the largest National Park in Costa Rica
as well as the most remote so we were making the trek to this richly diverse
place in order to see some animals and let me tell you we got lucky because not
only did we see one of its endangered animals we also saw something our guide
had never seen in all her years as a tour guide it was hard to film
everything but there were so many treasures
this tiny tree yeah there are four types of monkeys in Costa Rica and the most
rare to spot are the spider monkeys here in Coro Vado Park they are so much
different than the cappuccino monkey mafia of Manuel Antonio they only have
four fingers on each hand and have these prehistoric looking faces my favorite
however may have been the animal that is actually endangered this is a mama type
here and her very cute baby both sleeping because they are nocturnal my
mom on the other hand had not just a favorite animal but a favorite fact what
were you looking for over there poop at night really into their pooping well
they poop in the water because it makes them feel lighter when they poop yeah it
makes you want to poop in warm water kids have a little bit of constipation
just like the tub here well I'm sure you feel better off knowing that fact so
you're welcome lastly it turned out we discovered something even more
spectacularly rare which became our ultimate favorite the silky anteater it
was so small and so cute and our guide had never yet seen its face until today
this is only her third time seeing the silky anteater and the first two times
she only saw it in like a ball it was the first time she's seen the face out
of all the years that she's worked here
after enjoying so many guided tours it was time to give my mom a little taste
of the off-road adventure
oh my god I don't know if I want to do that
oh it shakes, why is he getting out?
you ready?
in our attempt to go chasing waterfalls we came across some typical
characteristics of the road that I often find on the motorcycle
I wasn't sure what was worse for my mom driving the road itself or imagining me
on it with a motorcycle
either way I gotta say she did pretty good so we finally arrived at a place
called Chontales waterfall outside the town of Domenical
okay wait for it, I'm here and guess what I forgot my drone so bad
you look like you're popping a squad
it is such a gift to be able to share my love of exploration with my mom and even
more that she's up for it and enjoys it too we continued our self-guided
explorations and found more waterfalls
our adventures are far from over but it feels about time in the video where I
get a little cheesy
being on vacation with my mom has been very eye-opening for me I noticed I get
overprotective of her experience just wanting everything for her to be okay
and when things don't go smoothly I get upset and try to control things which
is not like me when I'm on the motorcycle thankfully my mom remains
even-keeled light-hearted and always with a smile she rarely gets angry and
I've never seen her be unkind I'm grateful to have her as such a steady
example and the more I've strayed from the conventional life taking on the
journey of creativity the more I recognize the importance of supportive
people in my corner the author of the artist way Julia Cameron tells us that
one of the chief needs as creative beings is support and if you didn't
already know every single human is a creative being for me my mom has been a
steady and consistent supporter in my life even though some of the things I've
done and still do like riding a motorcycle in foreign countries may make
her stomach drop she never puts her opinion above my heart's desires she
cheers me on no matter how bad my creations may be and always encourages
me to keep going I am so grateful to have a mom like this and if anyone out
there doesn't I can now attest that if you put your heart's creations out into
the world you will find people who will cheer you on because I also did in so
many of you so a big thank you to my mom and all of you for keeping me afloat so
this trip has been really special locking in some great memories with my
mom and if you're wondering how she's doing on her Spanish well
