Julia, you have been in so many incredible romantic comedies in the span of your career.
We think Pretty Woman, My Best Friend's Wedding, Notting Hill.
But you've said it's actually, it's one of your, well, we're getting to Mr. Pizza.
It's one of your favorite genres, but it's a hard one to act in.
Of the ones you've been in, do you have a favorite?
Oh, that's not fair.
I know, it's like picking a favorite child.
It's impossible.
I mean, because I spend so much time with Sam Esmail, and he,
My Best Friend's Wedding is his favorite movie, and so we end up talking about it all the time.
And when we did this TV show called Homecoming Together,
and then he hired Dermot Mulroney to play my boyfriend, and he was just like,
yeah, we did not have a very nice relationship in Homecoming.
So it was kind of funny, and Dermot and I are great friends in real life.
And so that's the one that kind of always springs to the forefront of my mind.
But it's, you know, Notting Hill, they're all fun.
It's like, and when you make people happy, that brings me so much joy.
Well, and it's also the 35th anniversary of your breakthrough
role in the 1988 cult classic, Mystic Pizza.
That's great.
I watched it a week ago.
It holds up, is fabulous in every way.
We do have a quick clip of it.
Kiss mom for me.
No, Daisy, I'll be late for my interview.
Well, then you better hurry.
I've been three times this week already.
Cat, four, and you go to heaven.
Cat's such a good girl.
Where did we go wrong with her sister, Daisy?
Honey, you'd do just fine if you just use your head a little more.
Yeah, well, don't worry about me.
I'm not gonna be slinging pizza for the rest of my life.
The best pizza.
She can get people to say their lines, but she just, she waits.
I wasn't gonna do it on our first meeting.
I was gonna wait till our second meeting.
It was Conchata's line, the great Conchata Farrell.
Fabulous Conchata Farrell.
Now, I heard you did something a little crazy for the audition for Mystic Pizza.
What was that?
Well, my hair, I was still my own self in those days with my big cheeks and my big curly hair.
And I have light hair.
And so I went in to meet the casting director for the movie and she said,
gosh, you know, I think there's no point in you coming back because we need someone with dark hair
and, you know, and I went to Lambert's.
Do you remember Lambert's?
And I got some dark mousse.
Oh.
And boy, my hair is that big in real life.
You should have seen it with a can of mousse in it.
It was so big.
And I read with Adam, who became the boy that played my boyfriend in the movie,
and I had my giant dark hair and we're talking and he starts going like this.
And I'm thinking, I can just hear the crunching, the crackling sound, you know,
and he's going, oh, Daisy.
And I'm like, oh, God.
And walking to the train station on the way home from the audition,
just starts to, of course, rain.
Oh, no.
And my nice white collared Ann Taylor shirt that I felt so jaunty and just ruined.
But I got them parts.
For over 20 years, to your husband, you were just mentioning him,
this amazing cinematographer, Danny Motor.
Yay, Danny!
What you say is the secret to a happy marriage.
Can you share it with us?
Well, I mean, there's a few secrets and some of them are actually secret.
Well, the ones you can say on daytime TV, right?
She's in this.
She's in the mall.
I'm in menopause.
What do you want from me?
If you was in menopause, you wouldn't be talking about this.
Go ahead.
Well, my sister, who's been married for 25 years or 26 years, I think,
she says the secret to a happy marriage is two bathroom sinks and two phone lines.
Yes, a happily married woman in the back understands.
The two sinks is important.
Two sinks is important.
I think marrying the right person is important.
It helps.
I think lots of kissing, hello and goodbye is really, I think, a critical detail to daily life.
But, OK, I like that you guys feel that way, but shouldn't it just be like, yeah, you know, obvious?
Well, I'm just saying, everybody try it.
Give it a week.
Every time you say good morning, hug and a kiss.
Every time you leave the house.
My husband of 25 years does that every single day.
Yeah.
I'm like, what's up with all the kissing?
Oh.
But I guess it's, that's the secret.
25 years later, maybe that's what this little secret sauce is.
Well, maybe that's been my problem.
I just have a muah.
I don't have a mm.
You know, I just do a muah, see you, bye.
Yeah, yeah.
Come back in a week.
Hit and run, that's what I like to talk about.
I gotta go.
Sorry.
It's a pleasure to see you.
Thank you, thank you.
Thank you for coming.
A joy to be here.
It's a great thing.
Our thanks to Julia Roberts.
Leave the World Behind is in select theaters now, and it hits Netflix on Friday.
Do yourself a favor.
Gotta see it.
You must watch it.
It will, it will freak you out a bit, but it will be worth it, I promise.
And you'll make you kiss everybody.
That's right, that's right.
