Daniel Medvedev versus Taylor Fritz is the third match of the AWB Finals for 2024.
And both players have had interesting seasons to get to this stage.
Taylor Fritz comes to the tournament as number five in the world,
making his second appearance at the AWB Finals,
with his first appearance being in 2022,
where he made the semifinals after sneaking in to the top eight that year.
This season, he's won 49 matches and lost 21.
Two titles are also included in that.
His best win has been against Varev on multiple occasions,
but at the peak of Varev's powers at number two in the world,
he beat him at the Lever Cup.
His worst loss, however, was against Mikkelsen on the clay courts of Geneva.
His form hasn't been great lately,
but with the confidence from the US Open final a couple of months ago,
Fritz has got to be dangerous at this event.
Daniel Medvedev comes in the tournament as the number four in the world,
with his best result at these finals back in 2020,
when he won the tournament against Dominic Thiem.
His year has been a little bit interesting with 45 wins, 19 losses,
however, hasn't won a title for the entire season,
which is really disappointing considering how consistent Medvedev has been
over the last couple of years by winning titles.
His best win was against Yannick Sinner at Wimbledon,
getting some revenge over the final of the Australian Open that he lost in five sets.
His worst loss, however, came on the hard courts against Fekina
in his first match in Canada.
His form's been a little bit all over the place, losing early in Paris,
but we all know that he hates playing in Paris.
But being number four in the world and a former champion,
he's got to like his chances on the indoor hard courts in Turin.
These guys have actually only played the one time before.
That was two years ago in Cincinnati,
where Medvedev got the straight sets win.
It was a close straight sets,
but it's kind of weird to see that they haven't played all that much,
considering both of these guys over the last couple of seasons
have been at the top of the game, yet they still haven't faced off.
If Ritz is going to win this one,
he needs to be aggressive and move Medvedev around.
He also needs to serve well.
We've seen that over the last couple of months,
especially with the confidence of that US Open final,
he has been serving really well and playing really well.
He needs to do that against Medvedev if he's any chance of getting the win.
Medvedev's going to win this one.
He needs to be at his defensive best and serving well as well.
I think this might be a little bit of a serve off.
We did see in their only match they played, they did play a tie break.
So Medvedev's going to have to be clutch
if it does go down the wire in those tie breaks as well.
Don't know what to make of this match.
We've only ever seen them play once before.
It's going to be really fun to see them play again.
I'm going to go with Ritz in three sets in this one to maybe cause the upset.
I don't know about Medvedev at the moment.
He hasn't been playing that well.
And also he has been a little bit injured to end the season.
And Ritz has been looking really good.
So I'm going to go with Ritz in a close three setter.
But let me know in the comments below who's winning this match.
