The GRIP Lab Project - Simple Backswing Drills to find your best position.
Here are two effective drills to help develop a proper backswing:
1. **Single-Handed Throwing Position Drill**: Start by getting into a throwing position using only your trail hand (the hand furthest from the target). Focus on the movement and the angle of your arm as you mimic the motion of throwing. This helps to develop the feel of your body's rotation and weight shift. After practicing this for a while, add your lead hand (the hand closest to the target) into the motion. This will help you integrate both hands and create a fluid movement that transitions into your backswing.
2. **Trail Shoulder Club Placement Drill**: Place the club across your trail shoulder joint. With the club resting there, turn your upper body away from the target while keeping your lower body stable. As you reach away, focus on maintaining the angle of your arms and keeping the club close to your body. This drill emphasizes the importance of shoulder rotation and helps you understand how to build a solid foundation for a proper backswing.
Both drills can be done without hitting a ball, allowing you to focus purely on your mechanics and developing muscle memory.
