Five thousand years of mystery.
Who built the pyramids?
Magena world where giants walked the earth,
leaving behind monuments that defy time itself.
A world where the very fabric of reality seemed to bend to their will.
Today, we embark on a journey to the heart of this ancient mystery.
A tale of pyramids, pharaohs, and a question that has puzzled scholars for centuries.
Who truly built these magnificent structures?
The pyramids of Giza, standing as silent sentinels for millennia,
have captured the imagination of the world.
It's commonly believed that these colossal structures
were the work of the pharaohs and their enslaved laborers.
But what if this is just a myth?
What if the true architects of these marvels were a civilization
far more advanced than we've ever imagined?
Join us as we delve into the enigmatic history of the pyramids,
exploring theories that challenge the conventional wisdom,
and questioning whether the pharaohs were merely custodians of a legacy they did not create.
Historians refer to the Old Kingdom as the Age of Pyramid Builders,
in reference to the massive pyramids that we all see,
built in the desert on both sides of the Nile Valley,
from the Fayyum region in the south to Giza in the north.
Egypt during the Old Kingdom was a land of great prosperity, peace, and progress.
Security prevailed, and people lived in calm and stability.
Literature, science, and arts flourished,
and a massive urban movement took place thanks to Egypt's natural resources.
Thus, Egypt experienced its most glorious period during the Old Kingdom,
where science and technology were at their peak.
To this day, we remain ignorant of how the ancient Egyptians achieved such advanced technology,
which perhaps surpasses our modern capabilities.
Did a great civilization, such as the lost civilization of Atlantis mentioned by Plato,
assist the Egyptians in building their civilization?
Or were the ancient Egyptians merely thieves of older civilizations?
These are all hypotheses, and until the curtain is lifted on hidden truths,
let us explore the most famous kings of the Old Kingdom and their achievements.
1. King Djoser
He was the founder of the Third Dynasty at the beginning of the Old Kingdom
and the owner of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara.
He made Memphis the capital of the country and focused on extracting copper from Sinai
and extending the southern borders beyond the First Cataract
after establishing his influence over the Nubians.
Step Pyramid of Djoser
The first colossal stone structure in history, consisting of six terraces stacked atop each other,
all clad in white limestone and surrounded by a massive limestone wall.
The Step Pyramid stands about 60 meters high, and the king's burial chamber was built from granite.
Imhotep, the wise vizier
During King Djoser's reign, one of Egypt's brilliant minds emerged,
leaving a lasting impact on the nation's history and civilization.
Vizier Imhotep
He is credited with designing and overseeing the construction of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara.
King Djoser entrusted him with many responsibilities, and Imhotep supervised every detail.
In addition to his architectural fame, he was also renowned for his wisdom and medical knowledge,
earning the love of the ancient Egyptians who erected statues in his honor.
2. King Sneferu
He was the founder of the Fourth Dynasty, which continued the legacy of the Third Dynasty
by maintaining Memphis as the capital of the country.
His reign was marked by peace and prosperity, and he was known for his reforms and strength.
Notable Achievements
He sent a naval fleet to Phoenicia on the coast of the Levant, modern-day Lebanon,
to procure cedar wood for building ships and constructing palace doors.
Sneferu also built two pyramids for himself at Dahshur, south of Saqqara,
and secured Egypt's eastern and southern borders.
3. King Khufu
A king of the Fourth Dynasty, Khufu is best known for his Great Pyramid,
considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World
due to its massive size, magnificent appearance, and superb engineering.
The Great Pyramid
Standing at approximately 137 meters tall and comprising around 2.3 million stones,
the Great Pyramid is the largest ancient structure ever built.
The Greek historian Herodotus estimated that its construction took 20 years.
Khufu's successors, Khafre and Menkaure, built smaller pyramids near his, though still impressive.
The Sphinx
King Khufu commissioned the carving of this statue from a massive rock
depicting the body of a lion with a human head, said to represent King Khufu himself.
The Sphinx measures 57 meters in length, 20 meters in height,
with a face measuring 5 meters, ears over a meter long, and a mouth 2 and one-third meters wide.
4. Uzerkaf
By the end of the Fourth Dynasty, the influence of the priests of the god Ra had grown.
Leading to the overthrow of the Fourth Dynasty and the rise of one of their own, Uzerkaf,
who founded the Fifth Dynasty.
The Fifth Dynasty kings erected massive obelisks symbolizing the sun god Ra
and constructed Sun Temples, many of which are located in the regions of Abusir and Dahshur in Giza.
The rise of provincial power and the fall of the Old Kingdom, the Sixth Dynasty,
Egypt remained strong, unified, and cohesive during the Old Kingdom for a long period until it weakened,
the authority of its kings declined, and the power of the provincial rulers grew,
particularly during the Sixth Dynasty.
These rulers took advantage of the king's weakness, concentrating power in their own hands,
seeking to rule their provinces independently, and attempting to break away from the king's authority.
Darkness descended upon Egypt, conditions deteriorated,
and chaos ensued during the reign of King Pepi II, who ruled for nearly a century.
This led to the downfall of the Sixth Dynasty during the reign of his successors and the end of the Old Kingdom.
A wise man describes Egypt after the fall of the Sixth Dynasty.
Look, the country has changed, and its conditions have worsened.
The Nile brings its flood, yet the people sleep, not rising to work in agriculture or animal husbandry,
not because they hate farming or herding, but because they do not know
what tomorrow will bring them in terms of calamities and horrors.
And so, our journey through the corridors of time has come to an end with the Old Kingdom,
that golden era which laid the foundations of ancient Egyptian civilization
and left behind a legacy that still echoes through the annals of history.
From the majestic pyramids of Giza to the innovations in science and art,
every stone and inscription tells the story of an extraordinary people
and the vision of leaders who have been immortalized by history.
As this illustrious era concludes, new chapters in Egypt's history unfold,
filled with new challenges and achievements.
Let us continue to explore the secrets of this great civilization together in the upcoming videos.
