In the fight for the Oval Office, both presidential candidates are racing to secure last-minute support. Here are their stances on affordable housing.
In the fight for the Oval Office, both presidential candidates are racing against time to secure
last-minute support.
With affordable housing top of mind for voters, Carter Evans shares where former President
Trump and Vice President Harris stand on the issue.
For nearly a year, 32-year-old Mason Cunha and his realtor have been struggling to find
the right home in Las Vegas.
Everything would have to be remodeled.
At the right price.
What keeps you from buying a home?
You know, it just doesn't really make sense right now to buy a home with the interest
rates and where they are and with the inventory what it is.
We have a serious housing shortage in America.
If elected, Vice President Kamala Harris plans to work with the private sector to build three
million new homes.
Cunha is a Harris supporter.
Is that going to solve the problem?
I think it's going to definitely help if you were to double or triple or quadruple the
inventory.
Harris also proposes outlawing price-fixing by corporate landlords and giving first-time
homebuyers a boost.
With a $25,000 down payment assistance so you can just get your foot in the door.
I would want to review what the qualifications are for that.
Where is that $25,000 coming from?
32-year-old Andrew Lum is a professional DJ.
He sold his home when his family expanded and he now rents but can't afford to buy.
Lum says his life was better when Donald Trump was president.
2020, we were able to buy a home.
We were able to buy it at an interest rate that was possible.
We were able to buy it with minimal down payments.
It's all about the American dream.
Trump says he wants to reduce mortgage rates by slashing inflation and he says he'll open
limited portions of federal lands to allow for new home construction, a plan the Biden
administration is already enacting.
More than 80% of the land here in Nevada is owned by the federal government.
This 20-acre plot in Las Vegas was recently transferred to the county and now all of it
is designated for affordable housing.
I will also stop inflation by stopping the invasion, rapidly reducing housing costs.
Trump says his promised mass deportations will make more housing available.
So it just seems a little far-fetched to me that all the houses are being purchased by
immigrants.
I think everything that Trump says has to be taken with a really aggressive grain of
salt because he is known to inflate the truth.
Two supporters of the American dream, no matter who they support for president.
