It all starts with the final group. Justin Thomas among the chasers on the first.
Beautiful tee shot down there. Just a flip wedge in and what a way to start the day for JT.
Birdie out of the gates. He was two behind that margin, now one. The leader, Nico Echevarria,
answers. You see that little kind of cut hold-off finish, that back right pin trying to bleed it
back there. Judged perfectly. A shot by Echevarria. Justin Thomas. These two guys just trading blows
early. Par three third. 176 yards today. This pin tucked over the left bunker. Just an eight iron
for Justin. JT two deep after three. How about Max Graesserman also in the final group? Yeah,
this is how you answer that tee shot from JT. Rolling it in. Good. Beautiful on that downhill
effort. Wasn't too back for long on the fourth. Yeah, a lot of times you're in that final group,
the nerves show with the short stick in your hand and he looks very comfortable and calm today.
See if he can show some skill here.
How would you grade that, Craig? Yeah, that's pretty pretty dang good right there.
Ricky Fowler for a birdie. Rolling in from long range. Yes, he is. So Ricky Fowler trying to
stay in touch with the top of the leaderboard here. Give himself a chance to win.
Nice lines. Keep his head very still.
Game on. We got two at the top. Echevarria and Thomas. And a little left of this flag.
To that aggressive tee shot. Echevarria for birdie. Yeah, tiptoeing along the little ridge.
Certainly quick and moving left. He looks good. You gotta fly at least to the flag.
Yeah, it's carrying the right distance.
And on a little bit of a downslope in the rough, that's going to be tricky.
Also needs to get down. Is he going to spin enough?
Oh, the best of the bunch. That's going to be a good look the way he rolls it.
But he's at least pitching into the slope of the screen.
Show some skills with the short game yesterday. And that's actually pretty decent, guys. He
kicked it underneath the hole. Not too bad at all. Point shoot for Graceman. Pours in another one.
This is a good litmus test for our leader. It's pretty much straight up the hill.
Well, neither of us have a crystal ball, Craig, but you're going to look back
if you're Nico Echevarria. If you end up missing this playoff or losing by one.
It's at the 15th. JJ Spohn just losing it right off the tee, which we've seen a lot of players
do here at Naroshina.
Tough today over those left bunkers, essentially.
Draw it in there. Wow, what a shot. Unbelievable, that pin.
This plays up a good four or five yards.
Another good opportunity to try and knock one in there close, and it's on a good line.
Great shot there. Is this the time where JT makes a putt and separates himself?
Thomas for birdie.
Wow, I'll tell you what, he started that exactly on his line and that thing was
dripping towards the middle of the hole and about two feet left.
10, 12, 15 feet left is probably where he's looking.
Somebody's got to do something here. Check some energy.
Gray Simmons ball and just let it drift towards the flag.
Good shot here.
There you go. Ends the drought for this final group and takes a one shot lead.
But of course, Justin Thomas still has a good birdie chance to come.
Previous told straight up there to land.
Just can't get anything to drop the putter going cold at just the wrong moment for
Justin Thomas and right as he said no frustration, Craig, I feel like
that was the first time shock is it's a forced carry off the downslope.
Here's his third. Now it looks like the right dip that stays up.
Like I said, there's a big crown. It's just such a difficult wedge shot.
And what more can you do as a player?
This green is nasty.
That is so good, even if it doesn't stay there, which looks like it's not going to that is really,
really good.
Once it catches that Ridge will go another 10, 15, 20 feet closer to front left portion of the green.
Graceman, the unlikely birdie.
Craig mentioned how many putts he makes of length.
And wow, none bigger in his entire career than that one.
Can it? Chevrolet is a par back at 14.
I'll lose at least one.
Pretty well done. That's a tricky little putt, especially when it's for bogey.
Taylor Moore.
Let it fly on the 18th.
Oh, yes.
Be a kicking eagle.
Knockdown 6.
Left of the flag. He's twirling.
Well, that is the best place to be putting from.
Does that putter have another one in it?
Echeverria gets that to go. He's at 19 under. We're all tied up.
See if he can get this distance right. Be really good from the fiery lie.
Strike was good.
Good too. He's giving himself a chance for a birdie, but he has to get that putter working.
That putter has just gone stone cold Steve Austin, hasn't it?
Does he need to get this moving left to right, Craig?
Not really.
You hit it pretty straight.
Well, it's hit really well.
And if this is enough, this is right on line with the flag.
Oh, just clears.
And that's on. The green and two will be an eagle putt for Echeverria.
So there's a clearer picture of what he needs to do.
Needs to carry. He's on a good line.
Will it carry?
Was it enough?
Graceman pulled that one left.
Yeah, a little scruffy off the tee have laid and that one there wasn't his best.
Thomas's third.
Inside 40 feet for eagle in the wind.
It's birdie putt.
Agonizingly close.
What a roll. That must have looked good till the very last second.
And like you said, Joe, you hang your hold your head high after a fun around 65 in the final group.
Birdie on 18.
Total it up.
It's a four under 66.
Echeverria so clutch in winning his second PGA Tour event.
He's your 2024 Zozo championship winner.
Echeverria making a name for himself out here in Chiba, Japan.
