In this video, we will talk about the end of the incredible over $1,000 value bonus
on the Chase Sapphire Preferred and how long you have if you still want to get it.
We also have more info on the new Smartly Visa signature card from US Bank,
which will let you earn up to 4% cashback on all your spending.
Hey, Credit Warriors, welcome to the show. My name is Ben Hedges, aka The Credit Shofu,
and on this channel, I cover how to earn rewards and points from US credit cards
to redeem for free travel and teach you how to do that too.
If you like the sound of that, please subscribe.
So first up, we have the end of the current welcome bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred,
a hugely popular mid-tier travel credit card.
The current bonus, which has been active for a few weeks,
is 60,000 points for spending $4,000 in three months from account opening,
plus a $300 travel credit for Chase's travel portal.
So when you consider that the points on this card are worth 1.25 cents through the travel portal,
then that would be $750 for the 60,000 points,
and then you add in a $300 travel credit, that's a total of $1,050 in value.
If you transfer those points out to airlines, they can actually be worth more.
Chase also currently has a 40% bonus when you transfer to Virgin Atlantic, by the way.
Okay, it ends on November 30th, so maybe you wouldn't have the points in your account.
I mean, I guess you could if you did the spending real quick
and you got the points on the first statement date.
Not 100% guaranteed, but, you know, could work.
But anyway, if you missed that one, there could be more transfer bonuses in the future.
However, with the Virgin example, the points guy values those points at 1.4 cents per point,
all right, for Virgin miles.
If you transferred 60,000 Chase points to Virgin with a 40% bonus,
that's going to be 84,000 Virgin miles now in your account.
The value of those 84,000 Virgin points or miles or whatever they're called
is $1,176.
And then you still have the $300 travel credit on top of that,
taking your grand total for the welcome bonus to $1,476 in value.
So just an example of what you can do when you use your points
in conjunction with a transfer bonus.
If you book business class, you're going to be probably more value than that.
If you book economy, maybe slightly less.
But we did say that this bonus is now in what they call the last call phase.
You can see they've added this offer ending soon flag on the landing page.
So when is it actually going to end?
Well, I would expect in a few weeks, the information I have received on this
referred to us as being in quote, the final weeks of the bonus.
However, what that means exactly is unclear.
Is it five weeks?
Is it two weeks?
Okay, that's quite a big difference.
But at least we know that isn't going to end in less than a week.
So I'll put the link to this card below guys, if you want to learn more about it.
But speaking of high bonuses that will be ending soon,
there is actually another chase card that has a bonus that is ending very soon.
And we know exactly when it will end.
And that is the $900 cashback slash 90,000 points bonus on the Chase Inc Unlimited.
You have, again, that little offer ending soon flag on the landing page.
But with this one, I know the exact date and time.
And this one is November 7th at 9 a.m. Eastern time.
So you've got about a week.
This one is a business card.
But with Chase business cards, you do not need an actual company to apply.
You can use your own social security number.
You just need to be in a job where you're paid as a contractor.
Like maybe you're an Uber driver or you're in the building industry or whatever.
Even if you have a regular W2 salary job, but then on the side,
you do something as a contractor, like some side business could be selling stuff on eBay,
dropshipping, whatever.
What I'm trying to say is that the bar isn't that high as to what counts as a business
for Chase business cards.
These are small business cards at the end of the day, not corporate cards.
I'll put the link to this card below as well.
So you have both of them.
You have the income limited ending November 7th at 9 a.m. Eastern time and the Sapphire
preferred, which is ending soon.
We don't know exactly when.
All right, guys, let's now move on to the U.S. Bank Smartly Visa signature card.
Now, this is the card that is coming out soon from U.S. Bank and it earns 2% cash back on
everything.
And then if you open a Smartly savings account and have combined balances with U.S. Bank
of these amounts on screen now across savings, checking or investment accounts, it doesn't
have to be in that savings account.
It could be in your IRA or whatever.
As long as it's with U.S. Bank and you have that savings account open, you can increase
that cash back rate up to 4%.
Now, this card is still referred to as coming soon.
And previously, a reader on Doctor of Credit claimed that they had insider info stating
that the card would come out on October 21st.
Obviously, that has now been and gone.
So that person either was fake or they didn't know what they're talking about or the date
just got pushed back.
Maybe the info is real, but the bank just changed it.
Who knows?
But we do have a little bit of updated info on this card.
First, U.S. Bank has confirmed on X that there will be no cap on the 4% cash back rate, since
on the landing page for the card, it says 2% unlimited, but then an additional up to
2% when you pair it with the Smartly savings account.
It doesn't say an unlimited extra 2%.
I guess people think the banks catch you out with cleverly worded language and it's like
capped at $10,000 per month in spending or something like the Alliant Visa signature
card now is.
That card used to be 2.5% cash back, totally unlimited on all your spending, but then they
changed it.
But with the U.S. Bank Smartly Visa signature card, it seems that this won't be the case.
The company said on X, answering a question from a customer called Ian.
Hi there, Ian.
That is a wonderful question.
There is no limit to the amount of cash back a customer can earn.
We hope this information is helpful.
Take care, KT.
Then someone called Phoenix hits back trying to figure out if they mean for the 2% base
or the 4% as well, thinking he's caught them in some kind of sneaky behavior, saying that
doesn't answer the question.
Is there a cap on the 4X earnings?
Like if you spend $100,000 on the card, are you still earning 4X back on that $100,000
or is it like 4X on the first $50,000 and then 1X back on everything else?
But to Phoenix and Ian's surprise, U.S.
Bank responds saying, hi, Phoenix, there is not a cap on the 4% cash back that can be
earned.
However, there are specific requirements to receive the 4%.
And then they share the link to the page that shows the amount of deposits or investments
you have to have with U.S.
Bank.
Ian then responds, and it seems he's happy, although Phoenix is nowhere to be seen.
But hey, at least U.S.
Bank answered the question.
That's more than most politicians do.
They could have just responded saying the CEO of the bank was raised middle class.
I grew up a middle class kid.
I was raised as a middle class kid.
It's working for her.
So, well, actually, is it working for her?
I don't know.
Anyway, it's a great thing that U.S.
Bank gave a real answer to a real question.
I would say, though, that there may be changes to this card in the future.
OK, that's typically what they do.
They always launch them with really good earnings rates and no caps and everything.
And then they change them.
All right.
That's what we saw with the Alliant Visa signature card from what is it, the Alliant
Credit Union.
It was two point five percent back on everything with no limit.
And then they brought in a ten thousand dollar per month spending cap, which still isn't
terrible.
And deposit requirements as well.
So, you know, that could happen down the line with this card, too.
But at least what we know that at launch, it seems that there is no cap on that four
percent cash back rate.
If you're lucky enough to have enough deposits or investments with U.S.
And we're almost done.
But there is one more thing at U.S.
Bank has now added to the landing page that the card will be metal.
Obviously, this really isn't going to matter for many people.
But for those that actually do care about having a metal card way, we now have a metal
card.
Personally, I do think that metal cards feel nicer and it's nicer to pay with them and
they make you feel important and stuff.
So it is nice to have.
But it's not like a make or break thing, right?
It's not a deal breaker.
If you're happy with the four percent cash back, you're not going to be like, oh, my
goodness, the card isn't metal.
So I'm not going to get it.
OK, that's just ridiculous.
Anyway, guys, that is the video for today.
Don't forget, we have those links to the two chase cards below.
They are both ending soon.
