This is Zhangjiajie, one of the most beautiful places to travel in China. This unique landscape is in fact where the Avatar movie was based off! It is our first time exploring this incredible & breathtaking corner of China. Join us as we brave the tourists (and the weather) and we travel to another world, welcome to the stunning floating mountains of Zhangjiajie, China!
Are you ready to see the most gorgeous, beautiful, incredible view of your life?
You may have seen photos and videos from this gorgeous place that seems like a completely
different world. Well, we couldn't miss the opportunity to see this wonder of nature
with our own eyes. So, we hopped on the train from Wuhan to Zhangjiajie. From there, we got
a ride up into the National Forest Park. And this is actually where we're going to stay,
inside the last guest house in the National Park. We will tell you about that a little later.
Welcome to one of the most beautiful places here in China and in the world. You might have seen
this place without even realizing if you watched the movie Avatar, the world from there was based
off this place. And if you haven't seen Avatar, I really recommend it. So, here we are, and
hopefully, we're going to see something today because it has been raining for 40 days and today
is the day. It's been hammering down all day yesterday and today is supposed to be really
beautiful and sunny. Well, it's not. So, really hoping that we're going to see something. There's
not much we can do about it, just embrace it and hope for the best. So, we're starting the day up
by one of the cable cars in an area of the National Park, which is massive, by the way,
called Yangjiajie. And we're hopefully going to see some absolutely beautiful mountains and
cliffs from this cable car. But as Julia said, that's weather dependent and I guess we're going
to find out in a moment. I'm so pissed right now, I can't even describe. I'm just trying to, you know,
think it till I make it, I guess. This is our second day here of three and to be honest, you
could quite easily spend four or five days here. There is so much to see and do just within this
National Park. It's unreal. Well, thankfully, you can still see something today and that was an
absolutely beautiful start to the day. Let's continue. We're actually going to take the same
cable car up and go to a different part of this park. We really wanted to see the views
on this cable car and it was worth it. So, there's different types of tickets that you can buy for
this park and we bought the fully inclusive ticket, which includes every single cable car,
every single bus and every mode of transport within the National Park, as well as your National
Park entry. We actually booked it through the guest house that we're staying in, which we will
show you later. And I think that's probably the easiest way as a foreigner. I think the process
is quite convoluted. You have to book your ticket through WeChat, which if you're not used to that,
I think could be very difficult, especially without any knowledge of Mandarin. So, yeah,
find yourself a guest house or a hotel that can book your ticket for you or a friend.
I think one thing to note about traveling here in Zhangjiajie
is there are signs obviously in English, as well as in Russian and Korean to show you around,
as well as obviously in Mandarin. But if you don't speak Mandarin, prepare to be a little bit
confused about getting around the park. Even with the signs in other languages, you still have to
get certain buses and work out where to get off those buses and it can get a little bit confusing.
So the good thing about where we're staying is that we got a map from the owner of the property
and he drew us kind of the route and told us where to get off and like highlighted stuff. But
if you don't have that, you could be a little bit confused, not gonna lie.
So we made it to Yuanjiajie, which is one of the most famous parts of the park.
This is where the Avatar Mountains are and we'll show you them in a minute. But first,
we're just hiding from the rain. We bought these special get-ups, which are very cool,
if I may say so myself. And we're going to grab some lunch, I think, try and wait this rain out
and then hopefully it may clear and we may get the most beautiful view we could have imagined for.
That's the positive part of me speaking. The other part is saying it's probably going to
continue raining all day. But right now, map number one. We're prepared now. We're prepared,
we're in the game. We're so good. There are lots of different food stalls everywhere at
every stop we've been. So let's go and try and find something. It's so busy everywhere here.
We should have eaten in the previous place because they have so many different options
and you can sit down and have a variety of different cool food. But here the options are,
there are two restaurants over there and like a fast food place and
we grabbed some fried dough here. I'm not sure what's inside.
It's good. Yeah, the food was much better there.
Are you ready to see the most gorgeous, beautiful, incredible view of your life? We spent a few quick
getting here. It took us some time but looking at this it was all worth it. Get ready.
Wow.
Somewhere down there are the Avatar Mountains. The thing you see when you type in the phrase
Zhangjiajie, this is what you see. I mean, not this, but without the clouds. This is what we see.
Do you reckon we should walk further out? It could be better. It could be. I mean,
it can't be any worse. Look, the last bus is at six. Shall we just wait?
Just stand here? Yeah. What time is it? One? It's 2.30 but you never know. There's still time.
There's still time. Let's wait. I'm starting to see something or maybe my eye is just getting
adjusted to the fog. But it may be clearing up. I could be making it up and nothing gets more likely
than that. It's actually insane how loud it is here. I feel like I'm on the beehive but there
are so many people over that side. I bet there is something good to see but when I can't see them,
I'm just staring the other way. It's so noisy. I just, I didn't realize how high up we are
until I saw this. To be honest, I feel like seeing it like this is even more beautiful
than if it was sunny. It looks so mysterious, doesn't it? Over there where the clouds are
literally moving at such a pace as well. I feel like it's such an insane beauty. It makes me
all emotional and teary. It was so worth it. Everything was worth seeing. I'm so happy that
we can actually hire someone here to carry you around. This is mental. Exhibit A is coming now.
So we made it to kind of a natural end of the walkway area with the view over the mountains.
That was absolutely incredible and from here we could have taken the lift down to the bottom part
of the park and done a big loop but time's getting on. It's now 4 30 and the last bus
back up to where we're staying in the national park is at 6. So we decided we're gonna give it
a miss this time and it's a good excuse to come back to Zhangjiajie in the future. Also I think
we need a warm shower and to dry off a little. I'm not gonna lie, these things kind of helped a bit
but not that much. I'm so wet inside. Are your feet wet? A little bit, yeah.
We're about to get bus back to the guest house where we're staying.
We just wanted to stop here and grab some fruit.
Let's get the bus back. Let's go see all the tea fields here. So the reason this hotel can stay in
the national park and it's the last hotel here in the national park is because they grow tea
for the government. So in 2017 when the government shut down all of the hotels within the national
park, these guys said that they needed to keep theirs open in order to make this business
profitable. So yeah that's why there's one left. So if you're coming to Zhangjiajie and you want
to stay in the national park, come here and you'll get the sunset view hopefully. Well if you do come
here and you want to stay in the national park this is your only option. The last bit is quite
a steep climb up to the viewpoint and I think we're potentially on the verge of missing the sunset so
my god we gotta get a move on. Nobody can take it. Oh Kilimanjaro vibes.
We were really unlucky with the weather. It was hammering down all day every day which made it
pretty impossible to film much but we are very grateful that we managed to see some of this
natural beauty and share it with you. Also we didn't get to say goodbye properly as I got a
nasty food poisoning so I was um you know busy. Thanks for coming along with us and see you in the next video.
