This is Kayla's favorite cheese sausage. Cheers!
Look at that. It's super savory and you immediately need to have a bite of their seaweed rice.
Look at that.
Come here little fish.
Welcome to Foodie Mama PH. We are here in the area of Orchard and we're gonna visit one of the famous
shopping malls in the area. It's called Takashimaya Mall and not only they're famous for their shopping
areas but they're also famous for their food. So that's what we're gonna try. We're gonna get
some Japanese food like the famous taiyaki, the yakitori, yakisoba, the Korean kimbap
and then we're gonna get some pastries. I can't wait. Let's go inside.
All right so we've come here inside Takashimaya Mall and we're here at the Basement 2
where you'll see a lot of food stalls. I think it's quite like a food court
where there's a lot of Japanese goodies and some other international stuff.
You can get your breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks and dessert.
Everything here. So I'm so excited to try the stalls. Let's go.
We're all starving and we immediately saw this auntie making fresh kimbap rolls.
So for our first stop we ordered this nine dollar tuna kimbap.
Our first stop, Korean food. I know it's Takashimaya Mall. It's a Japanese mall,
Japanese name mall but I just can't help it. I saw the auntie making a fresh batch of
kimbap. It's a tuna kimbap and Kayla can't wait as well. You already took a bite.
You're very hungry? Already. All right so as you can see the auntie is making fresh batch of kimbap
and we had to order the fresh one that she's making which is the tuna kimbap. My team is
already hungry so they already took some of the pieces but basically there's tuna, cucumber,
carrot, radish and some other veggies in there. So it's wrapped in the seaweed wrapper with
toasted sesame seeds on top. Let's give it a try.
So good. It's Saturday. Very busy. We're here at the basement of Takashimaya
and I can't wait to try some more stalls. Let's go.
Hi, I'll have two bowls of rice with seaweed.
Second stop, Torikyu. So the birthplace of Torikyu is here in the basement of Takashimaya
Mall. This is the very very first branch of Torikyu and now it's very famous
and it's almost seen in every in almost every mall, right? You can buy it anywhere now but
let's try the sausage. I think she already took a bite. This is Kayla's favorite cheese sausage. Cheers!
Look at that. It's super savory, salty and you immediately need to have a bite of their seaweed
rice. Look at that. Look at this seaweed rice. I put a lot of chili powder.
Seaweed rice, everybody. This is the only way to go.
As you can see, their seaweed rice is a little bit sweet because they have a famous special sauce
that is sweet, made only for their yakitori. One of their specials as well is this pork skewer.
Fatty, meaty, flavorful, sweet, savory and you have to chase that with this. This is their
pickled radish. So mostly in Japanese stores, you will see purple pickled radish that goes
with sushi or their rice balls. This is it. Oh yeah, very crunchy, sweet, sour.
All right, next up is the tamagoyaki. So it's basically a rolled omelet
which is a popular street food in Japan. Cheers! This is Kayla's favorite as well.
Super soft and sweet. Melts in your mouth. Oh my gosh and it's very addictive.
Beautiful.
Torikyu is one of our favorites. It's one of those meals that you can just buy
and buy for takeaway and bring home, share with your family very quick. And this one I heard
they started doing with robots, just cooking the skewers. But right now,
they have many staffs to do the cooking the skewers one by one so that they would marinate
and dip in the machine that they use specifically made for this stall, Torikyu. It's owned by a
Japanese man. He's envisioned this ever since he came to Singapore to have this type of business
and it's growing and it's very popular here in Singapore.
So good. So this is their famous yakitori sauce which has some soy sauce and some other flavorings
but normally when I'm halfway through my meal, I would drizzle this on top.
So so good. Okay stall number three, Modanyaki.
So the omelette noodle is ready. So this is from a stall called Modanyaki. So as you can see,
there's an omelette that's topped with some, I don't know if it's ketchup or chili sauce
and some parsley. Let's open it up to reveal the noodles that the staff has been cooking earlier
fresh from the huge griddle or pan. I think we need to try the omelette. Just the omelette first.
Omelette with the chili sauce.
Mmm. Noodles.
It reminds me of, I think these are like yellow egg noodles.
They're very like starchy and they have a specific flavor to them. It's a little bit soft
and lightly seasoned and it goes well with this soft omelette.
Cheers.
Very simple for $4.98. I think it's a very simple but heavy meal to keep you going.
Stall number four, Mini One. So it's one of the famous bakeries here because they
bake the pastries on site. So you have that visual entertainment while queuing. Man,
this Takashimaya Mall, I come here very rarely but it's packed with people. It's a Saturday
late afternoon but it's really packed with people.
Almost every stall has a long queue. So this is how it looks like inside.
There's a bunch of mini cheesecakes here. Let's try to open it up. I'm not sure if there's some
stuffing inside or it's just plain cheesecake. Okay, so it looks like it's a plain cheesecake,
maybe Japanese style. Let's try it from Mini One.
Oh, I like this. It's very simple. Again, what I like about cheesecakes is
they're very cheesy and this is exactly what I want. It's not too sweet and it's very moist.
See that? Oh my gosh. Packed with cheesy goodness. Oh my gosh, I cannot stop.
But I think our taiyaki is gonna be ready so let's check it out.
So now we're queuing here at Mr. Obanyaki. It's like, they're famous for their taiyaki which is
like, it's like a Japanese pancake that is in the shape of a fish and normally I think the most
famous flavor is red bean but I'll say it's my first time trying it here in Takashimaya at Mr.
Obanyaki. It's very famous. As you can see, the queue is until there. It's very long.
It's gonna be a long wait so I hope it's worth it.
All right, so the long wait is over. 20 minutes. Oh my gosh, I hope this is really, really worth it.
Oh my gosh, look at that. Normally I would see this in Japanese street food vlogs but
here in Singapore, they have it here at Takashimaya Mall. Here, so they got the classic red bean flavor.
So the auntie, there's a lot of aunties working in that stall. They're very busy.
So they start by putting the batter then stuffing it with this red bean
and then flips it over. It's very entertaining to watch and it's freshly cooked. I'm so excited.
Come here, little fish.
Look at that.
The batter has some chewy texture. It's a little bit like oily from the butter that they put
in the beginning of the cooking process. So they brush over some butter
before putting the actual batter. And the filling, the red bean filling is not too sweet as well.
It's just very like sticky. Like it takes time for you to talk properly. You gotta munch it over but
oh my goodness. Freshly cooked, freshly prepared. Really good and nice presentation.
Beautiful snack. I believe in both in Japan and Korea, it's very famous.
Ladies and gentlemen, taiyaki.
All right, so we just finished snacking with the entire family and we enjoyed
sharing together all the meals, snacks, and then the dessert, especially the freshly cooked taiyaki.
Then our all-time favorite, torikyu, which has a beautiful story where it started here
at Takashimaya. If you ever come to Singapore, I know that you're going to Orchard but
I highly recommend. Check out this Takashimaya Mall. It's like a huge department store. You will
see a lot of things and a lot of great food. That's it for today's video. Thank you so much
for watching. Until we meet again here in Singapore. Bye!
