Once in a quiet monastery surrounded by hills, a young disciple felt really uncomfortable because
of the negative vibes around him. He felt choked by all the negativity. So he went to his wise
master feeling very upset. Master, the disciple started, I can't stand the energy in this
monastery anymore. It's too much for me. I want to leave and find some peace in a place that's quieter
and more calm. The master listened carefully, his eyes showing that he understood.
What's bothering you so much here? He asked kindly. The disciple shared his troubles.
The monastery is full of monks who are always involved in politics and gossip,
and there's a lot of negativity. Some monks speak badly about me and others,
while some just gossip all day. It's difficult for me to concentrate on my spiritual growth.
With all these distractions around, the master listened carefully to the disciple's concerns,
then offered a solution. I will let you leave, he said, but first you need to do one last thing
for me. Eager to move on, the disciple agreed. The master then handed him a spoon filled with water.
Take this spoon and walk around the monastery grounds. Carry the water without spilling a
single drop. If you succeed, you may leave for a peaceful monastery. The disciple took the spoon
carefully and started his walk. He concentrated deeply, focusing all his attention on the spoon
to ensure not a drop was spilled. Hours passed as he walked the paths he knew so well, his eyes fixed
on the spoon and his mind shielded from any distractions. When he returned, a smile of relief
spread across his face. Master, I did it! I carried the water all around the monastery without
spilling any. Now may I go to a peaceful place? The master smiled, his eyes twinkling with a quiet
wisdom. Tell me, while you were so focused on the spoon, did you hear any monks speaking ill of
others? Did you notice any gossip or negativity? The disciple stopped to think, then realized
something. No, master, I didn't hear anything. I was so focused on the spoon that I didn't notice
anything else. Exactly, the master said, his voice calm and soothing. This monastery, like anywhere
in the world, has its challenges, but if you focus on your goals and what is important to you,
the negativity will not affect you. It becomes just background noise. He continued,
wherever you go, you will meet people who are negative or who you disagree with.
You can choose to focus on their faults, or you can choose to focus on your path and respond
with positivity. That choice will shape your experiences. The moral of the story is that
negativity and distractions exist everywhere, but how we choose to respond to them is within our
control. The disciple was bothered by the gossip and negativity around him in the monastery,
but when the master asked him to focus solely on the spoon, he realized that he had blocked out
all the distractions. This showed him that by focusing on his own goals and what truly matters,
he could avoid being affected by the negativity around him. The wise master taught the disciple
that no matter where he goes, he will encounter negative people or situations. However, it's up to
him to decide whether to dwell on the negativity or concentrate on his personal growth. By focusing
on the important things, the noise of negativity becomes irrelevant. This lesson teaches us that
we can find peace and happiness within ourselves, regardless of our surroundings, by maintaining
focus on what truly matters. In life, challenges will always be present, but how we respond to them
shapes our experiences. If we let distractions consume us, we lose sight of our purpose.
If we remain focused on our path, we can rise above the negativity and achieve inner peace.
