Since the ambitious Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903, the brand has produced a
series of exceptionally fast muscle cars. These super-fast machines often outpaced many of today's
vehicles. Let's dive into the 10 fastest muscle cars in Ford's storied history.
Number 10. 1973 Ford Falcon XB-GT. The 60s were a golden era for muscle cars,
with brands pushing the limits of engine capacity and engineering. While the Mustang was impressive,
the 1973 Ford Falcon XB-GT stood out. It featured a 5.3-liter V8 engine that could
accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 6.3 seconds. Manufactured by Ford Australia,
the Falcon was a popular choice down under but saw declining sales in the U.S. due to market
competition. By 1970, Ford discontinued the Falcon in the States, missing out on its 300 horsepower
and 380 pound-feet of torque. The Falcon XB-GT boasted an impressive top speed of 132 miles per
hour. Number 9. 1970 Ford Torino GT Cobra 429. Before the Falcon, Ford introduced the Torino,
a box-structured supercar with impressive specs. The Cobra variant, with its 7.0-liter V8 engine,
delivered a remarkable 375 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Competing with top-tier
muscle cars like the Dodge Charger, the Torino could accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour
in 6.6 seconds and reached a top speed of 136 miles per hour. Number 8. 1994 Ford Mustang GT SVT
Cobra. The 1990s continued the fierce competition for the fastest muscle cars and Ford was a key
player. Despite emission regulations, the Mustang GT SVT Cobra made its mark with a 5.0-liter V8
engine producing 240 horsepower and 285 pound-feet of torque. This Mustang, with its smaller engine,
remained a formidable contender with a top speed of 137 miles per hour. Number 7. 1987 Ford Mustang
GT 5.0. The 1987 Ford Mustang GT 5.0, with its distinct design, was a beast under the hood.
Its 5.0-liter V8 engine delivered 225 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. The lightweight
fox body design made it highly competitive, accelerating from 0 to 60 miles per hour in
6.3 seconds and achieving a top speed of 143 miles per hour. Number 6. 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT
500 Supersnake. A collaboration between Carroll Shelby and Ford, the 1967 Mustang Shelby GT 500
was a masterpiece. The GT 500 Supersnake prototype, equipped with a GT40 427-cubic-inch V8
engine, delivered about 520 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Initially planned for limited
production, the Supersnake was deemed too expensive. This legendary model reached speeds
of 170 miles per hour. Number 5. 2016 Ford Mustang GT 350. In the 2010s, the Mustang GT 350 emerged
as a standout, combining modern design with high performance. Its 5.2-liter V8 engine produced an
impressive 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Competing with European supercars,
the GT 350 had a top speed of 174 miles per hour. Number 4. 2003 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra.
The early 2000s saw a blend of classic design and modern technology in the SVT Cobra,
with a 4.6-liter V8 engine delivering 390 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque.
This model achieved a top speed of 175 miles per hour. Number 3. 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500.
The 2020 Mustang Shelby GT 500, the latest in the line, represented the pinnacle of Mustang
evolution. Its 5.2-liter V8 engine produced a staggering 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of
torque. While its power was unmatched, its top speed was slightly lower at 180 miles per hour.
Number 2. 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500. The 2010 Shelby GT 500, another successful
collaboration between Ford and Carroll Shelby, featured a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine
with 540 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. This model, with its modern interiors,
could reach a top speed of 190 miles per hour. Number 1. 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500
Supersnake. The 2013 Shelby GT 500 Supersnake remains the fastest Ford Mustang ever produced.
Limited to just 500 units, it featured a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 engine capable of 662 horsepower
and 631 pound-feet of torque, achieving an incredible top speed of 202 miles per hour.
