I've been doing this stuff for 60 years, and now at 78 somebody's saying I'm fine.
I'm like...
Ernie Hudson threw the internet into a tailspin last month
when he appeared on the red carpet in a basic black t-shirt and trousers.
But it wasn't his clothing that sparked interest on social media.
It was what was below them.
It's hard to realize that Mr. Ernie Hudson is 78 years old.
This is Ernie in 1980, and after four decades, he looks hotter than ever.
One Twitter user remarked,
Sweet baby Jesus.
I'm lusting after someone's grandfather.
While another described the actor as the ideal of tall, dark, and gorgeous.
At 78, look at them gams right there, boy.
Thank you. Thank you.
Forty years after he featured in the original Ghostbusters film,
the internet couldn't get over how buff he looked,
and they had all kinds of questions about how he stays that healthy and youthful at the age of 78.
However, what appeared to be a fortuitous accident
was actually the culmination of years of focused work to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
His toned body and magnificent biceps were more than just a stroke of luck.
They were the result of continuous decisions made over time
to prioritize health and well-being.
I'd like to look good at 100.
In this video, be prepared to be inspired by Ernie's holistic approach to health
as he shares his top five home food choices,
While you may believe that Ernie Hudson's healthy body is owing to good genes,
this is not the truth.
In 1998, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
2011, I was diagnosed with rectal cancer.
He has recovered from cancer twice.
In both cases, screening detected his cancer early, making therapy more successful.
Let's first look at what he eats to stay fit.
What Ernie eats.
Take a look at my fridge.
Ernie makes healthy diet choices, just like any of us.
He also reveals that his midsection has struggled to maintain its weight loss as he has gotten older.
He has adjusted his diet by eating more whole foods like veggies and lean meats
while eliminating processed meals like refined bread and spaghetti.
He enjoys these five foods at home.
Oatmeal.
First thing I eat, I love to eat oatmeal.
His go-to breakfast is oatmeal since it's simple to whip up and packed with fiber.
Oatmeal is a fantastic pick since it aids with regular bowel movements
and gives him a sensation of fullness during the day.
Eggs.
Hard-boiled eggs.
Favorite, favorite is salmon.
His preferred lean protein sources are hard-boiled eggs and smoked salmon.
Eggs, especially when cooked without oil, are an easily digested source of high-quality protein
as well as necessary vitamins and minerals,
making them an excellent nutritional choice for both elders and young people.
They also include a considerable quantity of leucine and amino acids,
which are essential for long-term muscular support,
as well as other crucial nutrients such as vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids,
as well as choline, a little-known nutrient that is necessary for brain function
and connected to muscle strength.

Let's proceed.
Smoked salmon.
Smoked salmon is high in omega-3 fatty acids,
which give health advantages throughout the lifespan,
particularly for the brain, heart, and eyes.
Smoked salmon is also an excellent source of protein.
Salmon also contains B vitamins,
which are known as energy vitamins due to their involvement in metabolism.
They help convert the food we eat into energy that our bodies can utilize.
Wholesome vegetables.
Ernie adds sautéed spinach and homemade vegetable soup to his meals
to increase his vegetable consumption.
Spinach is a nutrient-dense leafy green
that is high in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants,
which promotes optimal health and vigor.
His wife's handmade vegetable soup provides him with a range of nutrients
from various veggies, which improves his immune function and general vitality.
Pecan.
I love these things, so these little string cheese,
this will take me about a half hour to eat them.
While Ernie does allow himself the odd cracker treat,
his commitment to focusing on nutrient-dense meals
is evident in his avoidance of processed foods and fast food.
His food choices include nuts, such as pecans and walnuts.
This gives him a delightful crunch
while also giving healthy fats, fiber, and important nutrients.
Ernie's eating window of midday to 7 p.m.
is consistent with his natural eating habits
and represents his intuitive approach to intermittent fasting.
I don't eat normally before noon.
Not only does this help his metabolism,
but it also improves his digestion and gives him more energy all day long.
Ernie prioritizes hydration,
as seen by his devotion to drinking many bottles of water each day.
Let's take a brief look at how he cares for his skin.
Ernie's skincare routine.
Here, Ernie rapidly reveals his skincare secret.
He added that he is particular about skincare
and utilizes sunscreen and moisturizer.
Ernie mentioned that for many black guys,
there is a blackness that begins to appear beneath the eyes.
To combat this, Ernie utilizes vitamin C
to maintain the pigment consistent.
Let's get on to the essential part about his fitness habits.
Ernie's exercise regimen.
At seven, eight years old,
I'm at a point where I have to do something,
but I'm not a gym rat.
In his own words,
he explains that at a certain point in life,
it's just common sense.
I don't want to damage anything
and I don't want to push anything too hard.
You only have one body,
so I want to maintain it as functional as possible.
Also, I've been married for over 50 years
and I don't want my wife to pretend that I'm beautiful.
I want to at least grin when I take off my top.
For Ernie,
fitness is more than just sculpting the perfect physique.
In his own words,
I see these guys who pump up
and have massive arms and six packs
and that's not what my career has been about.
Ernie stated in an interview
that his body did not truly alter
till the last five to 10 years.
He mentioned that people told him his body would change
when he turned 50, but nothing happened.
Then, in the 60s, nothing changed either.
Finally, in the 70s,
he started to notice that his lower stomach fat
was getting worse.
So, now that he's in his 70s,
he works out more frequently
and even has a personal trainer.
I will walk the 10,000 steps at least.
In his own words,
he stated that on days when he does not exercise,
he tries to go for a half hour walk at a leisurely pace.
That is Ernie's strategy
to avoid what he calls Mr. Jiggles.
Ernie emphasizes the importance of following a regimen
that he can stick to.
He exercises three times each week
with Mondays dedicated to balance and coordination.
Wednesdays are for Pilates,
while Fridays are for weight training.
Having a youthful trainer who pushes him,
like Ernie, who is in his 20s,
makes the gym session even more energizing,
and he feels great after doing a range of exercises.
Ernie continues to complete
at least 100 to 150 push-ups in three sets.
On other days, Ernie does squats.
While traveling, Ernie jumps rope
and does crunches or planks in his hotel room.
When I heard the word cancer,
it was one of the most devastating moments in my life,
but it was the early prevention.
I get yearly checkups and we caught it early,
and that's why I'm able to sit here
and talk to you right now.
Regular medical checkups.
Ernie was diagnosed with cancer twice.
In 1998, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer,
followed by rectal cancer in 2011.
In both cases, screening found his cancer early,
making therapy more successful.
Ernie is now a spokesman for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
He now pushes for early medical exams
and, when feasible, cancer vaccinations,
such as the HPV vaccine,
which is accessible to both boys and girls.
Walking exercises.
Ernie highlighted the need of following common-sense rules,
such as walking.
While filming, Ernie can be seen roaming
about the set in between takes,
and he also wanders throughout all of the airport terminals
rather than eating the free refreshments
in the first-class lounge.
It's paying off,
as Hudson shows no signs of calling it quits
on his acting career.
Ernie and his wife of over 40 years, Linda Kingsberg,
try to walk at least 10,000 steps every day,
which is made easier by the fact that they have a puppy.
Now let's take a look at the various supplements
he swears by.
Ernie's supplement.
In a recent interview with Men's Health,
Ernie disclosed the contents of his supplement closet,
revealing insight on his regimen
while emphasizing that he is not pushing
for any specific supplements
and that his wife does not use them.
His routine remains interesting.
I don't know why I take it.
My wife doesn't take any of it.
She's like, you know what, we're eating good.
You have all you need, but I'm not taking any chances.
Among his choices are vitamin C and B12,
which are needed for immune support
and energy metabolism, respectively.
He also includes apple cider vinegar,
which is thought to aid digestion and weight management,
as well as coenzyme Q10,
which is well-known for its cardiovascular advantages.
Ernie contains an immune system supplement
and fiber gummies for digestive health.
Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids,
which are essential for heart and brain function,
while hibiscus flower is known
for its antioxidant benefits.
Furthermore, Ernie focuses his general health
by taking a multivitamin designed specifically
for those over the age of 50.
Finally, his commitment to improving exterior wellness
is clear in his selection of a vitamin
that targets hair, skin, and nails
while encouraging vitality from inside.
Hudson joked that his wife has seen that
as he grows older and receives more attention,
she travels with him.
Whereas she used to say,
I'll see you later,
she now says, no, we're going together.
With 80 nearing the corner,
Hudson is proving that age is just a number.
