How to make a correct Classical Hair Bun for Ballet

Hi, I'm Keziah. I am 13 years old and I dance at arts and I will be showing you how to do a correct classical bun. First, you will need a spray bottle to slick all the wispies out and to make it nice classical look. You will need bobby pins. There's a lot of types of bobby pins, but I like to use these closed ones. They're really helpful doing buns. I just like them a lot. You definitely, you really need hair nets because they help your buns stay in place, get all the wispies out, and make it just a lot cleaner look and classical look. You obviously will need a hairbrush and a hair tie. So I'm going to start with just her hair down and take the brush and I'm just going to go straight back. Now the height, you want the height to be right on the line of your jawbone and you want to see the bun peak right from if you're looking straight to. Now I'm going to take the spray bottle, spray it, darn it. Now you're definitely going to want more than just one ponytail because as you can see I just broke one and yeah, you want to always have more than one of everything just in case something like that happens. And you want to try to match the ponytail, the hair tie, as much as possible because it does show in the bun. This would be a ponytail and this is more like a hair band, hair tie. So I'm going to take the ponytail, brush it. After you're finished doing your ponytail, I'm going to take three strands of hair, split into three pieces. The reason why I do this is because you want to make the bun look as swirly as you can because it's a really good look in ballet and flat. You want to make it look flat also and this helps that. Okay, I'm just going to take this and I'm going to swirl it, grab a bobby pin. Now, a lot of people do put bobby pins in their buns a lot of different ways, but this is one of the best ways and I would prefer using. You take the bobby pin, you stick it through the center and then twist it and then just stick it through. It's pretty simple. Do that all the way around. Now, I'm going to stop doing it. I'm going to stop with this twist right about where it is at and I'm just going to let go of it and then I'm going to take another twist and start doing the same exact thing over this or beside it. I'm just going to twist it just like I did with the first one. Do the same exact thing. Take it. I'm going to stop the same exact spot that I stopped on the first twist and do the same exact thing that I did with the first and second twist. Twist it. So, you can see it's already becoming very swirly, flat and I'm going to stop right here and I'm going to take the first twist that I started with. I'm going to take it, twist it and just finish it off all the way around until there's no more hair left on this twist. I'm going to take the second twist, do the same exact thing that I did with the first twist. You want to always be pulling on this strand of hair while you are bobby pinning it instead of letting it loose so that it loosens up. You always want to keep it tight while you are bobby pinning each one down to get to the very end where it stays snug. That way it stays in place. And, of course, you take the third piece and do the same exact thing you did with this first and second. I'm still keeping it tight down here. Bobby pin it and finish. Okay, so I take the hairnet. Now, you do want it to wrap around twice as much as possible but sometimes hairnets just come in small sizes. Obviously, this hairnet cannot wrap around her bun twice because her hair is so full and thick. But, yeah, so if it can't wrap around twice, then you're just going to twist it and then you're going to take, you're going to like wrap it around the bun, kind of hide it under and you're going to take your bobby pins again and just bobby pin it down so that stays locked in place. Now that the hairnet is on, it looks a lot better with the wispies and everything. It looks a lot cleaner and round. To get the wispies, a lot of you know hairspray is the answer. So, I'm just going to spray down her hair and then I'm going to take my hand and just bring it down to the bun. All the wispies are gone. Now, you see all the wispies have come close to the bun because I've wiped my hand down to the, wiped my hand to the bun. So, I'm going to take these bobby pins again. I'm going to do this again with my hand. I'm just going to bobby pin those wispies down. Just keep doing that. That is how you do a classical swirly bun.
