Hey everyone, welcome to A Village Lost in Time part 5. Today we finally get to the official
downtown and I actually had a question for you guys. So the question is, would you guys want to
see the meat and butchery of the animal? I'm not talking like the actual part where it's happening
but everything that happens afterwards. So let's say we've already done the deed and afterwards
what happens with the meat? How it's processed? What we do with it? And the reason I ask is
because our main, well actually all of our celebrations revolve around food as it is with
most people and basically the main thing that we eat on a big celebration is called chivarme
which is a lamb on a spit where you roast it pretty much for the whole day.
We do this at the river, we do this at houses, we even do this at the center sometimes.
It's such a, how do I explain it? It's such an important part of daily life and Bulgarian
tradition and celebration. When I say daily life I don't mean we do this every day but
you get the idea. That we have a special chivarmejinica which is a special
part of our house that's dedicated specifically to chivarme. So I wanted to know if that's something
you'd be interested in seeing. We also have kurban which is when everyone in the village
gets together and in this huge pot like like the Wicked Witch of the West giant black pot
we make it's not exactly a lamb soup but lamb in broth I could say and this is done during
again big celebrations but more so when the whole village is involved. So chivarme
as you can imagine it's for more more of a limited amount of people 10-20 something like that but
when you get the whole village involved which is closer to like 40 something people then you're
have kurban so there's enough for everybody. There are a lot of other things we make what's
it called in English okay well I'll say it in Bulgarian make lukanka which is our salami we
make pastirma which is like our prosciutto we can the not can but we jar the meat for the winter
along with freezing it. I think it's also very important to say that we truly genuinely deeply
love our animals all of them. My grandfather he would actually cry whenever time came when we
had to slaughter one of his goats or chickens or or rabbits whatever it may be. Slaughter in Bulgaria
at least on the small farms or at least I can say on my farm is more of a sacrifice it's actually
looked at directly as a sacrifice not more of a sacrifice it is a sacrifice it's not just okay
let's slaughter the animal and let's eat. The whole celebration that happens after the animal
is slaughtered is actually a celebration of the animal of life and of the circle of life that's
just something that I think is very important to remember and I have an uncle who I didn't notice
this when I was little I didn't pay much attention but now that I'm older I realize he always says
thank you to the animal he raises a glass and says thank you after each slaughter now I realize
what he's doing he is literally thanking the animal so personally I think that there is a
level of respect that comes along when you're gonna eat the meat it is hard to see the animal
but also I feel like it is respectful to see the animal and to know exactly where it came from
so I think it's something very interesting and genuine that should be incorporated in any farm
video or channel but I really want to hear your opinion so if you could comment and let me know
if this is something you'd like to see anyway let's just jump straight in today's video
I feel like that was a pretty long intro so welcome to a village lost in time part five
and I really hope you guys enjoy hello new day and we are officially in downtown
and here you can see very clearly this house was actually taken apart you can tell for whatever
reason I don't know the reason myself but you can see how it was built where the chimney was
and the roof is still I wouldn't say it's intact it's not intact but
there you can see what I'm talking about the drops they start falling on the wood
over and over again what makes the roof fall we're gonna keep walking movie theater
remnants of an old house and here we got to our friend Rosa's house we're gonna go see what she's
gonna do what she's doing I should say she's gonna do we're gonna invite her to the bonfire
tonight okay so Rosa isn't home she's probably sleeping here's her yard I want to show you I
don't think she'll mind we'll come back to visit her later I just don't want to wake her in case
she's napping and we'll just continue our journey just close this door all right I guess since
we've started we'll continue our tour I was really hoping she'd be there so we're planning
a bonfire tonight because I don't know why I've just been wanting to do this for we used to do
this when we were little we used to gather and have bonfires all the time and for some reason
we stopped and the guys are gonna be doing some party with some fish that they caught
and I gathered the women and told them let's do our bonfire tonight some of them are a little
nervous I'm not exactly sure why pretty sure we can do whatever they can do instead of a day
there's some party going on over there and this is downtown personally I like uptown better but
it's because I'm from there most likely
here's a cool house I mean authentic authentic you can see all the firewood everyone's gathered
for the winter and again it's all out in the open no one touches them everyone knows you touch your
own and that's it another bathroom old uh old time bathroom okay I've actually wanted to point
this out for a couple days this is not a very good example right here because it's been cut
however you can see up there look how straight the angles are I mean this is all built by hand
you can imagine how long ago and it's just such professional work and the way it would work back
then is when the new family got married the whole village would get together and help them build
their new house which is we still pretty much do that in Bulgaria it's not so much the whole
village anymore but the family the immediate family and here we are back to where we started
downtown up down the center I mean I think you're oriented by now okay I'm going to stop part five
here there were a couple more things I wanted to show you but there were a weird amount of people
out you didn't see them on the camera and when I say many I mean like 10 but still I didn't really
want to film them and without their permission and all of that so either way I'm going to redo
all of these videos I think anyway in the summer months because I just it's more beautiful
obviously spring in my opinion is the most beautiful it's very green um so I'll just show
you some more of downtown next time this video I guess turned more into my question to you whether
you'd like to see the meat and butchery process I hope you guys enjoyed I think whoever has seen
all of the videos you've now seen pretty much the whole village I'm going to show you guys
the upper village as well there's another village almost identical to ours except it's completely
almost completely abandoned there's two people there that's it to a grandma and I don't know
who the other person is thank you so much for watching if you guys could like and subscribe
as always it really means genuinely just the world to me and I will keep these videos coming
and hope to see you there
