Hey everyone, it's comfort food time. It seems like every day is comfort food day.
These days trying to make it through times are tough. It's good to have some good recipes
without sacrificing your health. Breakfast is a great place to start. I'm going to give you one
of my favorite comfort food recipes today, French toast, but we're going to make it healthy. Stay

we're going to be making French toast with Dave's bread. Now Dave's bread is a whole grain bread.
It's very, very healthy. It's also very, very expensive. I think a loaf of Dave's bread cost
about six bucks. Now you get a lot of bang for your buck for that money, but six bucks can be
a lot to pay for a loaf of bread. So if you can't afford a Dave's bread, try to find a thin
whole grain bread. I have left this bread out overnight on a little pan to let it get just a
little bit stale. That's a key for making good French toast. If you have a bread that is just
a little bit stale, it will soak up flavors a little bit better without getting soggy when
you cook it. First thing we're going to do is we're going to set up right next to the stove.
This way we can get bread, dip, pan. I'm going to get my pan going.
If you don't have a pan like this, get one. With a little round pan, you're always trying to fit
the square pieces of bread on top of one another. They don't quite fit. They come up the side a
little bit on the pan when you're trying to cook them. With a little griddle like this, nonstick,
you can fit pancakes, French toast, all kinds of things. You can even throw in a little meat
if you wanted it on the side, little potatoes, lots of room to do all kinds of stuff. Now let's
talk about our mix here. Eggs first, two eggs, two egg whites. That's how I like to do almost
all of my egg dishes. You get a lot of the flavor from the yolks, but not as much cholesterol.
Got a cup of oat milk or 1% milk, teaspoon of cinnamon, and you're ready for my secret
ingredient to make the best, healthiest French toast ever. Kale makes all the difference in the...
I'm just kidding. There's no kale in my French toast, but I bet you fell for it for a second
knowing the way I cook. Here's the real secret ingredient. A little bit of freshly squeezed
orange juice, and that'll help sweeten our French toast, give it just a little bit of
an orangey flavor as well. There is no kale in this dish. So I'm going to get that scrambled
around just a little bit. Now this is a nonstick pan, but I do put just a tiny bit of vegan butter
on. This helps really get that brown flavor and really doesn't add too much fat to the dish.
You hear that? That nice little sizzle that tells us that we're about ready to go.
So we're going to put our bread in our mixture, flip it over, get both sides covered, pop them on.
Nice sizzle. Now while they finish cooking, we're going to start to get our plates set up.
Beautiful French toast, berries on top. Sometimes I like to add a few chia seeds on top.
A little bit more fiber and a little bit more protein. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to
take this and a little syrup into my wife and one for my dog because they're going to get breakfast
in bed. Thanks so much for watching. Stay tuned next week for more videos. Make sure you subscribe
