Hey guys, today we're in Shenzhen. I'm going to take you to see the largest Hakka folk culture
wall city here in China, which is an Asian city in Shenzhen. It is called the Hewu New Residence.
The place was built in the year 1817 by the Hakka people. The Hakka people is a Chinese subgroup
in the southeastern side of China. So let's explore the Hakka culture here and the spectacular
architecture. Let's go together. Let's go.
So
to get there you could take the Shenzhen Metro. Line 16 to Longyuan Station.
Get out from exit B. After exiting the metro station, turn around and walk straight. Turn
left at the first junction. Turn left again at the second junction and you are there.
A beautiful pond in front of the wall city. Such an amazing arch gate inside the city.
So this wall city is considered the largest Hakka custom wall city here in China. So look at the
size. They are the gods of the door, which are the guardians of the house. This museum has
different showrooms, which are converted from different houses in there. After entering the
city, we could see some rooms. They are showcases the agriculture during the ancient times.
So here's a machine, the waterwheel, which they used to get the water from the river to
the farmland to water the crops.
The sign says Tai Fu Tai. Normally it means this is the house of an official here.
evil stuff out of the house. You could also buy those posters and stick it onto the entrance of
your house. There are many interior gardens. You could see Fai Chun outside of every house.
houses here. They have figures here, which simulate the life of the old days. We have entered another section
in the wall city. I think this place is kind of similar to the shopping mall in the modern days
because I just visited one of the houses here and it was a wine store. So I think each of the
houses here are shops. This place was a school at the ancient time in the wall city
and they also have a LCD TV at the time. Just kidding. I'm at the classroom next to the school
here. You can see that they have a simulation of the students studying with the teacher here.
Here's the staff room of the teacher.
So you could see that the class is small compared with the class nowadays.
So the teacher could concentrate more on the students work. Those are the classroom stuffs.
I'm at another store here at the time they will buy those clothes in such a shop here.
Very small shop. Not much choices compared nowadays. Traditional Hakka clothing here.
Not only they tailor make their clothes here, they also make their own cloth with the loom
behind me. I've entered another room here. They call this room the market at that time. You could
see that there's a tea house behind me. It's like a Chinese restaurant where you could enjoy some tea
and dim sum. Also there's a Chinese herb shop. Chinese medicine is very important at the time
so you always see a Chinese herb shop in the market. The tools were used to make Chinese
store here which sells tofu. Soybean products are the mainstream food in the Hakka custom.
If you have followed my channel, I've made another video on the Ganggang Hakkatang which I have tried
a dish of tofu with pork meat there which is really nice and it's Hakka style. So next to the
tofu store, there's another store here. Sells those old style Hakka kind of like cakes or mochi.
Sometimes they put the red beans in there so it's kind of sweet. Very nice. Like the mooncake
in the mid-autumn festival. They also make a lot of tools out of bamboos such as those behind me.
wooden structure inside a traditional Hakka house. You could see that many of the wood are
Here they showcase the modern time of the Hakka culture with the printing technology already.
So they create a mold with the patterns or the letters, characters on it and then put in the
Those are the stuff for a traditional Hakka wedding. Many things have to buy for a wedding.
The sign says Dongfeng, meaning that it is the first time where the couple spend a night together.
Here's a simulation of a birthday party of the grandma and grandfather. You see that the
grandsons and the granddaughter has to kneel down and bow to them. That's the dragon they use
at that time. What interested me is that next to the bed and on the wall they have a hole. I'm not
sure the main function of the hole. Is it to say hello to the people outside or maybe at night
the bathroom is too far away and then you do it here. I'm really not sure. If you know,
in the kitchen. This is the house of an important person here of this wall city.
You could see the furnitures here are more luxury. I'm at the backyard garden here. Very beautiful
with trees and plants. You could really relax here. But one interesting thing is you could
see the huge wall behind me. The interior is protected by the huge wall and separated the
backyard garden and the interior houses. I'm at the oil pressing factory here. Look at that.
They use all the tools to produce oil for the village. It's pretty amazing they could produce
everything within this wall city. Check out the machinery behind me. Look at the mechanics.
I cannot imagine the ancient people could invent such a machine at the time without computers.
They are showing the ancient machineries here include a few grinding machines.
I'm at the dragon ball factory here. This is where they make the dragon ball for the dragon
ball festival. That's it for you today. If you like this video, please subscribe to our channel
