Great Wall Motors chairman Wei Jianjun is now raising serious concerns. He warns that Chinese EVs lack core technology and trail behind Japanese models in quality. These problems could threaten the future of the industry. Despite boasting the world's most advanced EV supply chain, he reveals a surprising dependency on foreign technology. Critical components like motors, controllers, and chips all still come from the US. While China leads in intelligent technology, the chairman admits that significant challenges remain. Compared to global brands like Toyota, the country's quality management and long-term vehicle value still fall short. What's particularly worrying is the rise of misleading claims in the industry. Some companies advertise EV ranges of up to 1,200 kilometers on a single charge or tank, but in reality, it can only manage 600 kilometers. Wei said, safety and quality come at a cost, and he's calling for stricter regulations and enforcement to safeguard China's reputation as these vehicles enter international markets.
