This is Part 2 of our 11-part series covering Brush Studio.
In this video, we'll be focusing on the Taper settings.
For this example, we're just going to edit an existing brush.
Now that we're in Brush Studio, let's find Taper on the left side, just here.
The first thing to point out would be that the Taper settings are split into Pressure Taper at the top,
which relates to pressure-sensitive styluses, like the Apple Pencil,
and Touch Taper below, which relates to anything that doesn't support pressure,
like a dumb stylus or painting with a finger.
So, let's create a preview line for each method.
One with the Apple Pencil above, and we'll do another one with a finger below.
Here, at the very top, we can drag these nodes and define how much of the start and end of our stroke
will be affected by our settings.
If we toggle Link, Tip Sizes, and then Move a node, then the partnering node will move to match.
Now that we've defined how much of the stroke tips we're going to use,
let's take a look at our first setting, Size.
This determines how much the size will shift in the taper.
At higher amounts, we get a much greater shift in size.
Next is Opacity.
This fades the taper, but it only affects the defined length of the taper.
Unlike the next setting, Pressure, which allows a much greater, more natural fade.
It allows more control as well.
If we wanted less of a fade with this setting, we can just press harder with our brush strokes.
And next is Tip.
This defines the sharpness of the taper.
For this to work, it requires an amount to be defined in the Size setting above.
We can slide between a more blunt tip on the right and a sharper tip to the left.
Having Tip Animation toggled on will just animate the taper as it's drawn.
If we prefer a snappier visual with our tapers, we can leave this off.
The end result will be identical.
Below this, the options for Touch Taper are the same as above, with the obvious omission of Pressure.
Many people have eight fingers.
Some may say ten.
Regardless how many you have, given a little time in these Touch Taper settings,
fingers too can be used to create a lovely taper.
And at the bottom of our taper options is a toggle that lets us use Procreate's legacy taper system.
