Hello, welcome back to my channel. If you're new, my name is Alex. We're gonna get right into it.
Today, I wanted to talk to you about how to make your makeup last. Last. We're gonna be focusing
on the base. This is not about eyes, but I can do a separate video if you would like. Now, this is
not going to be a five minute video where I say, here, use this one product and all of your, um,
well, the streams will come true. It's not going to be this. This is not going to be that. I'm
okay. This is going to be really in depth. Okay. So if you don't want to sit through a long video
talking about like all the different ways that you can make your makeup last, it's probably isn't
for you. Just wanted to let you know right up front. Although you can probably tell from the,
uh, length of the video. When it comes to making your makeup last, your base makeup last, there are
so many different things you can do. We're going to talk about all of them today. The one that I
would say is absolutely necessary. Absolutely necessary is skin prep. Now I've talked about
skin prep in many other videos. People typically think of skincare primer. Hold on. My cats are
fighting. Now, if you've been watching my channel for a really long time, you're probably like,
duh, dude, like we are very aware of skin prep. We know about primer. We know about skincare.
You'd be amazed at how many people out there, uh, who I speak to are not prepping their skin at all.
And I'm saying like not even with moisturizer, the whole idea behind skin prep is to get your
skin to the place that you want it to be before you even start applying makeup. Now, obviously,
if you have things that you want to cover up, like rosacea, acne, um, I don't know,
darkness, dark under eye circles, that stuff isn't going to be gone when you skin prep,
but you want to get the overall finish of your skin looking like in the direction that you want
before you start applying products. If your skin is not prepped at all, if you are completely dry
and you put on that foundation, dude, or any, any of those products, concealer,
it is going to cake up. It's going to stick in certain places. It's going to look super dry
and patchy. There's a multitude of things that could go wrong. So don't skip skin prep. Don't
skip it. Now I'm a firm believer that you don't have to use a primer. Your primer or your skin
prep for your makeup could simply be applying a little bit more of the moisturizer you applied
in the morning. It really is going to come down to what your preference is, what you're looking
for and what works for you. For instance, this morning I woke up. First thing I did was I washed
my face with a gentle cleanser. And then I applied the Desi Skin Aqua Fresca moisturizer, which I've
really been loving, by the way, that was hours ago at this point. Um, it is a, like a water cream
type, um, moisturizer. So it's not super heavy, uh, pretty lightweight, nice and moisturizing,
but it's been sitting for like hours now. So while my skin looks like relatively,
you know, hydrated, not in like a wet way or anything like that. Um, as far as skin prep goes,
I know that if I go straight in with my foundation right now, it is not really going to have much to
stick to. And it's also probably going to end up looking a little bit dry, setting into like fine
lines and stuff like that. Hydration is typically key, regardless if you're oily or not, you need
to be moisturizing. You need to be hydrating. When I use a water cream type moisturizer,
what I like to do is really hydrate my skin. Sometimes I do this for full glam is use the
Tatcha Dewy Skin Cream. This is incredibly heavy, very dewy. Okay. Very luxe feeling. It's expensive.
It's Tatcha. I personally think that it creates a beautiful base to the skin, especially if you are
dry, very, very dry. Uh, now this is not something that I would recommend to use as a daily
moisturizer as it is very heavy. However, as skin prep for makeup, it can do wonders. If you're oily,
don't go anywhere near this. Okay. Walk away, walk away. Don't even, don't even look at the
package. I'm going to hide it from you because it is going to be a nightmare. Now, when it comes to
making your makeup last, you can go like a little bit further as far as your primer goes or your
moisturizer, whatever it is looking for ingredients that are going to create more of that like sticky
base is really going to help your foundation and all of the other skin products that you apply
stick to that base. So it's not sliding around. If I go in with, um, like a really like the Tatcha
Dewy Skin Cream, super slip, super slip, super silky, kind of slippery. And then say, I go in
with a really, really hydrating moisturizer, depending on my skin type, those products can
kind of just like slide around, which is a problem that I started to have, which is why
now I like to use something that is hydrating, but also creates a grip. Now, some of my favorite
products for that, some of the like tried and true products for that sort of thing are the
Milk Hydro Grip Primer, MAC Studio Radiance Primer, and also Elf, where did it go? Power
Grip Primer. They have the original. This one is the new launch with 4% niacinamide for your pores
and stuff. Basically all of these products are meant to create a lasting base, something sticky
that is going to hold on to that foundation. My personal favorite is the MAC Studio Radiance
Primer, and the reason for this is I just have needed a little bit more moisture, but it doesn't
make me look super oily. Another option, if you don't like piling up a bunch of products on your
face, for instance, if you use like a serum, you use a moisturizer, maybe you feel like the more
and more products you apply to your face, you end up getting pilling, is to use a mist. So this is
the Milk Hydro Grip Mist, which is in the same line as the Hydro Grip Primer. So it is meant to
hold on to product. You can also use pretty much any other setting spray. Again, depending on your
skin type, I've been loving the D-Slick from Urban Decay. I don't really use it to prep my skin
beforehand, but I do like to finish with it sometimes. And the D-Slick is a really great
option if like MAC Fix... Ow, I just hit myself on the temple. If MAC Fix Plus is just like way too
oily for you, which now for me it is, mostly because I don't wear as much product as I used
to. So we're going to prep. Like I said, I got the moisturizer on. Now I want to apply some of the
MAC. So I typically like to start off in the outer perimeter. What's really nice about the
Desi Skin Aqua Fresca is that it does not pill with my primers. So I do appreciate that. And
then I like to use this particularly underneath my eyes. If you feel like concealer disappears
or your under eyes end up looking very cakey from maybe a fuller coverage concealer,
this is a really great option. I've kind of combined a hydrating eye cream with something
that is going to like really hold onto that product with this. So don't neglect your under
eyes. Now whatever's left over, I'm going to take around the center of my face because I do
tend to get a little oily there, but I still want that staying power. So I'm just not applying
as much product. So when I touch my skin now, first of all, I can see a really beautiful glow
to my skin, but it doesn't look oily at all. It just looks like nice and hydrated and healthy.
When I touch my skin, I can feel a little bit of that hydration and I have a tiny bit of like a
stick. When my finger goes down onto my skin, I can feel just like a little bit of a grip.
That is what we want. Now I typically like to give my moisturizer or my primer like at least
a few minutes to just kind of like set a little bit. The more it sets, the more you start to feel
that stick. So like even now I can feel it a little bit more than I did. So I actually think
this is the right time to go in with my foundation. So I'm going to speed through the color corrector
concealer and foundation because it's what I always do. It's in all of my videos. Now you can
apply your foundation, your concealer, however you want. I prefer a damp sponge, but I promise
if you're wearing your makeup for the first time after applying primer, you will notice a gigantic
difference. Quick interjection when I sometimes if I need to like rehydrate my makeup sponge,
like if it's just been sitting for a while, sometimes I'll use a setting mist to rehydrate it.
I don't know if that really does anything, but it kind of makes me feel like it does.
So that's just a bonus. I will say as I'm applying all of these products, one of the most important
ways to make your makeup last is to not overdo it. So no matter if you're using powders or
creams, go in with light layers of everything. The heavier the application, the harder it's going
to be to keep it in place, to set and also prevent things like caking or creasing or
breaking breakage throughout the day. OK, we've applied all of our creams and now you might be
thinking powder, duh? No, rude. Don't interrupt me. First, what I'm going to do is I'm going to
set all of this with a setting mist before powder. OK, I'm choosing to use the Urban Decay
Deslick. I very rarely do this step because I kind of feel like it's only if you really,
really need it. I like to do it for like long days. I'm going to be wearing this glam a long
time. OK, that's when I will do this trick. Now that I have set my creams with the setting mist,
I'm going to set with a powder. So I'm going to be using translucent powder. It depends on the
look. For me personally, everyday looks, I don't really use powder glam. I'm going to use some
because I want to make sure that everything is going to stay in place and last. The kind of
powder that you use, once again, is going to depend on your skin type and also the amount of prep
that you did before you started applying your complexion products. If I had primed my whole
face with a touch of dewy skin cream, I would probably be looking a lot more dewy than this
and I would need more powder. I'm actually pretty happy with the way that my skin looks right now.
So I'm just going to go in with a dusting of powder to make sure that I'm setting everything
in place. But I don't want to completely mattify the face. So as far as powders, for me personally,
I have been loving the Elf Halo Glow Powder to set underneath my eyes because it has a bit of
pearl in it. It's a very, very fine amount of pearl. It adds a little bit of a reflect. It
sets, but it doesn't make my under eyes look cakey. That being said, I still don't need to
use a lot. So all of these products that I'm talking about, all of these like tips and
applications, tiny amounts, small amounts. Don't overdo it. Applying more is not necessarily going
to help you. So I like to tap in the cap and like load up the brush and then really tap it off. And
I'll do that a few times to make sure that I'm having an even application. Now you want to make
sure that you are blended. So I'm going to go back in with my sponge, which is a little bit
dry. So I'm going to mist it with some de-slick. I just do like two and then I usually tap it on
the back of my hand to make sure that it's not too wet. Go in and make sure that all my creases
are gone. Make sure I'm well blended before I set this. And then I'm going to go in with my powder.
So going back and forth like this, I want to make sure that I am setting every little inch.
I want to make sure I'm really working in that amount of powder
without having to go back in with more. Trust me right now when I say applying more powder than
this only does the opposite for me. Only does the opposite. We'll end up caking, creasing,
and looking horrible. Now I'm not super pouty. Who's next? Picky and powder. I'm not super picky
about my setting powders, to be completely honest. The one that I've been loving the most for like
my whole face is the House Labs powder, which has a lot of different colors. I use the lightest one
in translucent, which just works nicely. I think it adds like a nice blurring effect to the skin.
Once again, small amounts. So I'm actually going to be using the Sigma Samantha tapered contour
brush to apply this. I'm going to dip right in and make sure that I am tapping that off. I don't
know how I picked up that much. Jeez. I'm going to start in the areas of my face that tend to get a
little bit oily and also disappear first, which for me is the center of the face, basically in
my T-zone. So I'm focusing in those areas first, but then I'm going to take whatever's left over
and pat that all around the face. Once again, the amount of powder that you use is going to depend
on your preference, on your skin type, the powder type, and all those steps before. Now that I have
set my face with powder, I'm going to go in with each of those products that I used with the powder
version to reinforce this makeup. You might notice that certain things just like melt off your skin
throughout the day. Maybe your bronzer goes first. For a lot of people, it's their blush.
Something that you can do to prevent that from happening is make sure that you are applying
layers of both creams or liquids and powders. So rather than just setting with a setting powder,
I'm going to go in with a contour to start. I'm going to be using Wayne Goss. This is the
Radiance Boosting Face Palette. I'm going to use the contour shade. These are secret brushes too.
I have brushes that I'm using right now that are secret that I'm not talking about yet. So just
stay tuned. I'm going to pick up a small amount of the powder contour and I'm going to go over
where I contoured, which is why I sped through that before because I'm going to be repeating
the process. I'm doing the exact same thing just using powder. So I applied my translucent powder
to make sure that everything is set in place so that it doesn't skip around and move when I'm
applying the powders. On a slightly more natural day, I typically would just go in straight with
the powder or if I wasn't super worried about it lasting as long. Now I'm going in with San Juan
from NARS to reinforce my bronzer. Doing this will ensure that everything lasts. You're making
an impact with your makeup. You actually see everything because you're building it up in
light layers. But because it's light layers, there's less chance of oiliness, caking,
breakage, all of those horrible things that we're always trying to avoid. So we'll ensure that our
makeup lasts and it looks legit. And finally, I'm using this NARS blush palette to set my blush.
Okay, now that I have all of my powders finished, I'm going to go in again with a setting spray.
And again, it will depend on the state of your skin. If you went in with too much powder and
you feel like you look way too matte, you can go in with something a little bit more dewy to kind
of like bring life back to your face. For me, I'm just going to go right back in again with the
all nighter de-slick, de-slick, slick. All right, guys, this is my finished base. I threw on a brow
and I did a little spot concealing. But this is the finished result. Now because I was intentional
with my skin prep and also throughout my application, I know that this base looks beautiful
now. I also know it's going to last. It's going to be consistent because I used nice light layers.
I set with both powder and mist in between and now my skin and my skin finish looks gorgeous.
Absolutely love it. When I touch my face, it doesn't feel like I'm wearing makeup. Nothing
is like coming off. This is the kind of makeup that will last forever, will wear beautifully
throughout the day. All right, guys, so those are my tips for how to make your base makeup last
forever. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments down below. If you liked
