Simone Martini, Maestà, 1315–1321, fresco, 213 x 396 cm, located in the General Council Room of the Palazzo Pubblico, Siena. This monumental fresco presents the Virgin Mary as the Queen of Heaven, surrounded by angels and saints in a celestial court. It reflects both the spiritual devotion and civic pride of Siena in the early 14th century.
