HIGHLIGHTS | Manchester City vs. FC Barcelona -- UEFA Women's Champions League 2024-25

So here we go then this should be good. Manchester City back in the big time. It's a straight one handed straight to Patrick Guijarro and Aitana Bonmati trying to send Carolina Graham Hansen away. This will be a serious test for City's defence. Alexia and the run here is a key one from Graham Hansen. She's asking for a corner. She's got fingertips to this. Yeah and that's what I was wondering initially I thought that's a brilliant save but the way that Barcelona go back to front so quickly there it's scary and actually in the build-up you see that Alex Greenwood steps in really really high and we don't normally see her do that. Here is Ingrid Enger who's necessarily a native centre-back but now she's slotted in so well with Mati León out for so much of last season alongside Irina Paredes who's on the bench tonight. There's grass to move into here for Aitana Bonmati, Graham Hansen, Alexia with the touch. What a touch that is to set herself in the end it's food and drink. Dull side and they get away with one there Man City. Buddy Shaw it's a great touch. She's in the run of the minute against Rolfer and away from Rolfer. Buddy Shaw is on her way and there's the comeback from Idemar. She's getting it. Barcelona throwing themselves in the way of it. Fowler. Buddy Shaw is in here. She's all on her own. Buddy Shaw to cut it across. Nobody there behind Idemar. It's hemp off the post. Incredible. Still the danger not over with yet. They've done everything right except put the ball in the back of the net and this is the ball through. It's a fantastic weighted pass. Buddy Shaw does so well. I mean you see it there the angle is against her and I do understand why she's not took the shot on. It's a difficult pass and Man City do well to try and keep it alive. Lauren Hemp hit in the post but they've got to put one of these chances away. She lost it on the edge of the box. I'm thinking can you play Mary Fowler at that point. I think she probably should shoot. It's fine margins at the minute. Short XA and well over is extraordinary stuff. A brilliant brilliant block. As a forward I was always thought best case scenario and as a defender you're always thought worst case scenario. How the midfield three can really get a grip on a game. Dominate. They've not been able to do that at all in this What a save that is from Catechol. Best chance so far for City and Jess Park has been denied by a magnificent piece of goalkeeping. Well she must be thinking how is this not in the back of the net. Midamar does so well to just take her time and it's a big hand as well to parry it to safety. Some risky nervy moments tonight but that was world class. It's in towards Midamar. He's kept it alive and it's in and you have to say it is a deserved goal for Manchester City against the defending champions. Gareth Taylor we saw there is a very happy man and this will be for many reasons. Obviously you're 1-0 up in the Champions League against Barcelona but they've been peppering this back stick Man City and it's not quite come off but this time it does. Midamar keeps it alive and then when it goes back into the City's way here as some were beaten earlier tonight in Munich against Bayern. Graham Hansen is away and it's straight the Yamashita. It's the first time really that Karolina Graham Hansen has had a look up and seen it's just her and the goalkeeper. Comfortable save in the end really. Yeah you're expecting. Graham Hansen wicking this in. Away by Bonnie Shaw. It's a brisk breeze coming through the stadium. I think Graham Hansen was able to try and use the breeze there. Wicker did it. Bonnie Shaw turning into trouble. Aitana Bonmati has it. Aitana. The Yamashita gets down. They've been going wide. Yuri Hasegawa. Alipina peeling away at the back. Payot to take it on herself here perhaps. Payot with a cutback. Oh Christ a handball. It's messy and City still with their backs up against the doing her best. She's really well here to avoid. No video and technology on show here. In the group stage. Alipina tries a look. Wow. Drop quickly enough. 16 goal caliber of Barcelona. Far they've come. The work that's gone on in the last four years. Can they hold out here though? Here's Graham Hansen. Bronfen Casperi. She's been excellent tonight. Aitana Bonmati. Kira Walsh. Just imagine. Graham Hansen as Barcelona look for goals. On a badger. Back for Aitana Bonmati. This could be awkward. The Yamashita doing enough to just tip it over the top. Yeah she had to be equal to it. But what I'm surprised about there from Aitana Bonmati is she hesitates. I thought she was going to get it out of her feet. Kia straight away and strike it. But you see that little shuffle and because of that Man City are able to get the block on it. That's the challenge of Aitana. She's so well there Lauren Hemp. Alex Greenwood. Aitana said it was an easy decision to make here captain. And Bonnie Shaw. Is she timed to run well? She's in. Bonnie Shaw for Manchester City. Oh she's gonna do it. Having had to soak up so much. Bonnie Shaw makes sure for City here. Just under 15 to go. Manchester City now lead by two. Well time after time after time tonight. Bonnie Shaw has made that run. And for whatever reason whether it be decision making or not quite getting the rub of the green. It's just not come off for her. But there again the timing of the run. Or Manchester City fans want to see. Especially after the overall performance she's put in tonight. The most memorable night for Manchester City. Announcing their arrival back in the Champions League proper. Big time.
