Angelina Jolie opens up about her big screen return in 'Maria' to 'The Hollywood Reporter,' while also sharing rare personal life reflections. The actress explains why she doesn't have many close friends, saying, 'Maybe it’s losing your parent young. Maybe it’s working. Maybe it’s being somebody who’s been betrayed a lot.'
When your children are your best friends, it's a nice life.
Angelina Jolie now sharing why she doesn't really have close friends these days,
aside from her six children.
Well, there's a lot I won't say in this room.
But Angelina, seen here at the Venice Film Festival Thursday,
did open up to The Hollywood Reporter about returning to the big screen for Maria
after a three-year Hollywood hiatus.
It is under control. It's under my control.
At this stage of her life and career,
Angie admits,
I don't have a lot of those warm, close relationships as much that I can lean on.
As for why, Angie says it's because some folks are fair weather.
I've had a few friends over the years not be there for my family in their hour of need.
We are just a family.
Then Angelina references her past.
Maybe it's being somebody who's been betrayed a lot.
I think it's very important for us to appreciate life.
As for what's next,
the mom of six says she plans to leave L.A. once the youngest kids,
twins Vivian and Knox, turn 18.
That'd be July 2026.
And then I'll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.
When you've felt a certain level of despair, of pain, of love,
at a certain point, there is only certain sounds that can match that feeling.
Angie plays legendary opera singer Maria Callas in her latest movie,
a biopic she says she prepared for with nearly seven months of vocal training.
My first time singing, I remember being so nervous.
My sons were there and they helped to block the door that nobody else was coming in.
And I was shaky.
Angie doesn't name names, but we caught this nugget about a past relationship.
I had somebody in my life who was not kind to me about singing.
I just kind of adapted to this person's opinion.
It feels powerful.
As for her family-only inner circle, Angelina points to her real-life role on screen.
I have a couple of people that I trust.
What did Maria Callas die with?
Two trusted people.
I think in the way I related to her, it may be a surprise,
probably the part of her that's extremely soft.
I share her vulnerability more than anything.
