Visiting the Alexandra Bridge - British Columbia Travel
The Alexandra Bridge is located about 30 minutes north of Hope, BC on the Trans-Canada highway (Hwy 1) near the town of Yale, BC in the Fraser Canyon. There is a picnic area and outhouses near the parking lot, and a trail that leads to the Alexandra Bridge.
The first Alexandra bridge was built across the Fraser River linking the east and west sides of the river as part of the Cariboo Wagon Road, giving gold rush miners easier access to the interior regions of the province. This bridge was washed away in major flooding of the Fraser River and the current bridge was built some years later in the same place but 10 feet higher making it the first bridge to carry cars in British Columbia (thanks wikipedia!).
The trail leading to the Alexandra bridge is about 1 km long, crosses rail tracks, and is along a gentle slope downward. Of course, that means walking uphill to return to the parking lot. Use caution when crossing the rail tracks as there are no safety barriers.
