Ep. 1: San Rafael Swell Mountain Bike Festival | Utah RV Travel Free Camping

Welcome to this episode of Grand Adventure. I'm your host, Mark Guido, and we're in the Wedge Recreation Area, operated by the BLM in the central Utah San Rafael Desert. We're here for an event that takes place every September, hosted by the Mecca Mountain Bike Club of Emory County, that is the Bike the Swell Mountain Bike Festival. They hold a spring festival every year down in Green River, where they ride the trails around there, but the Fall Mountain Bike Festival is always held here at the Wedge Recreation Area, where the Saturday ride is featured on the Goodwater Trail. The Goodwater Trail follows a unique topographic feature that makes the Wedge Recreation Area a very special place to be. My name's Shawn. I'm Teresa. And we're from Heberts. So we've been coming down to Mecca for about three years, and we keep coming back. It's like free trail, good food, good people, making new friends. Everyone here is so friendly and they make the best food. Breakfast is awesome, dinner is awesome. We get to go out on the trail and just see what's amazing. Great. This looks fabulous. Thanks, Shawn. Yeah, you. My name is Katie McLean. I'm from Salt Lake City, Utah. Amazing. Just the local people down here who put this festival up. 10, 20 great people, and also just beautiful women. How long have you been coming down for this? This is just third year. Hi, I'm Bill, and this is Earl. We've been coming down to Mecca Bike Festival... Since it started. What, 10 years? The Big Water Trail is an amazing trail. So much fun to ride, and great people. We are friends that we only see twice a year at the Spring Festival and the Fall Festival. We've been going to the Spring Festival for probably 20 years, and the Fall Festival since the inception, however many years that went. And it's a great time to ride and a great time to have fun with friends. Yeah, and it's not really your traditional bike fest. It's not a big party scene, but they cook really good food and take really good care of you. It's whatever you need, they're willing to help you out with it, and you just feel like you're at home. Feel like you're at home. Home in the desert. As you can see, the weather's closing in behind me, so I think it's time for me to pack up camp and hit the road.
