I’m Micaela, a traveling mom to my 1-year-old daughter Monroe. I started flying with Monroe when she was 2 weeks old! I’ve racked up a lot of frequent flier miles but most importantly some tips and tricks I’ve learned along my journey. On my channel, I post new videos every week about mom how-tos, travel tips, healthy recipes, and lifestyle tips.
and I am sharing all of my tips and tricks to flying solo with a toddler. My daughter is 22
months and I first started flying with her when she was just two weeks old. So every other week
we are pretty much in a new city because my husband's in baseball. We are constantly on the
road and traveling and these are just kind of the tips and tricks that I've learned to make flying
by yourself with a child easier. I love packing cubes. It really helps keep our suitcases organized
and I like to color coordinate each cube per family member so it's easy to find each person's
items. Now I will pack all of my daughter's nighttime necessities in one packing cube and I
put it in my carry-on. This makes it so easy for those late night flights or delayed travel or even
a canceled flight to begin the bedtime routine by easily grabbing that packing cube. I pack pajamas,
her sleep sack, her diapers, her pacifier, even her sound machine in one cube so that I can easily
begin that bedtime routine no matter where we are. Okay having the right suitcase is crucial.
Make sure that you have a suitcase that has 360 degree wheels. This allows you to easily maneuver
all of your items through the airport without any hesitation. Alright you've made it to the airport
now what do you do? If you have someone dropping you off or even if you took an uber do curbside
check-in. Believe me if it's available it is going to be the easiest way to get all of your luggage
checked in. Now I start by unloading all of my luggage including my travel stroller right outside
of the curbside check-in. My next tip is to always check your car seat. You don't want to have to
hassle with your car seat unless you absolutely need it for on the airplane. This is my favorite
car seat travel bag because one it keeps your car seat in nice condition but it also has wheels so
you can wheel the bag or it has two straps and you can use it as a backpack. Okay once all of your
luggage is out open up your travel stroller and then go grab your toddler. Place the toddler in
the travel stroller buckle them in so they can't go anywhere and then put your car seat in the
travel bag. At this point your ride is free to go you've gotten everything out of the car next just
check your luggage in curbside and the only thing you should have to manage at this point is your
carry-on suitcase diaper bag and toddler with the travel stroller. Okay having a good travel stroller
is vital to making airport travel easy. I love this stroller and I'm going to tag it below but
this stroller is phenomenal because one it's easily accessible with one hand you can open and close it
with a one-handed closure but it also goes down the aisle of most airplanes and it fits in the
overhead compartment. Managing the layover or even a delayed flight can be super challenging with a
but take it from me it can be done. My best advice is just to let your toddler get their energy out
usually they've been sitting on a flight or they're about to board another flight the last
thing you want to do is make them sit still any longer so let them play obviously keep your eyes
on your toddler at all times and stay within arm's reach and make sure to pack hand sanitizer to get
rid of all the yucky airport germs and finally food sometimes a snack or a meal can be the best
way to entertain children. Yay you did it you made it to your final destination now we're at baggage
claim. My biggest tip is either get a cart to load all of your suitcases on or in my case on this
travel day I have my 360 degree wheel turn around suitcases and I'm easily able to hold both handles
and still push my daughter in her travel stroller. I hope this video has been helpful to help encourage
you that traveling solo with a toddler can be done with a few easy preparation steps you are
going to be on your way and just remember the journey is always better because we share it together
