Take a look at these two lines, which one looks longer to you? If you think it's this one,
I totally agree with you. But actually, they're exactly the same length.
This is a famous optical illusion. You may have seen it before, but did you know that you can use
it to dramatically improve how you look? And today, I'm going to show you how.
Like always, links are down below for everything I'm wearing today.
Layering is one of the most frustrating things for most women because it's so easy to look bulky
and frumpy. But I'm going to use the optical illusion to solve the problem.
If you layer like this, it's quite unflattering because horizontal lines,
and there's multiple horizontal lines. So get rid of those and switch to an under layer
that is the same color top and bottom. So now you have formed a vertical line right
in the middle of your outfit, grabbing all the attention. And this is way more flattering than
the outfit that's focusing on the horizontal lines. And just as this picture has shown us,
vertical lines look longer even when they're the same length.
If you find this interesting, the next one is going to be totally fascinating.
Take a look at these three lines. Which one looks the longest to you?
If you think it's this one, that's my pick too, but actually they're all the same length.
The reason this one looks the longest is because here's two inward facing v-shapes.
But how is this going to apply to you? Take a look at this top, a round neck with a flat hemline,
but this top has a v-neckline and a v-shaped hemline. So now you understand why this outfit
immediately make me look better, because of the double v's. But wait a second,
you don't even need to have both v's. You can go with a v-shape for your top or for your bottom.
That is enough to make your outfit look more flattering. When you're choosing a skirt,
go with a skirt that has a slit, because a slit is effectively creating that inward
facing v-shape for your bottom. Now for those of you, if you've been watching my channel regularly,
you have heard me talking about slit skirts, slit dresses before, and that is because here's
a bonus. Whenever you're wearing longer length, midi or maxi length skirts or dresses, having a
slit is going to show some of your legs, and that's going to make sure your legs are not
disappearing behind all that extra fabrics, and that's how you can look taller and better.
Now let's talk about your tops. There are multiple ways that you can do this.
When you're wearing a button down shirt, never close it up high on your neck. When you open
your neckline, that is creating that beautiful v-shape. In general, button down shirts are
pretty challenging for most women, especially for those of us with bigger chest,
and that is because it's covering everything, and that's why by opening up your neckline,
you can effectively create more space for your upper body and instantly look slimmer.
And the easiest way to do this is to go for a v-neckline. Whether it's a top or a dress,
whenever you're going for a v-neckline, you're going to notice that it's elongating your neck
and make your face look slimmer, and this is so important for those of us who have a round face
shape. I have a round face shape, and if your face looks fleshy in general.
Bathing suits are one of the biggest challenges for most women because they show our body exactly
the way they are. If you're 5'4 and under, or maybe you're taller, then your body proportion
is longer torso and shorter legs, like myself. In that case, bathing suit can be really tricky
because when you're wearing pants or jeans or dresses, you can go with a longer length
plus high heels, and that can make your legs look longer and your body proportion look better.
When you're wearing bathing suits, those options do not exist. But now that you understand how the
optical illusion works, you can use it to find much better bathing suits. The key is to go with
high neck cut. These are going to create that very flattering v-shape for your legs,
and because you are exposing more of your legs on the side, so this is going to literally extend
your legs and make your body proportion look better instantly, even without heels, even when
you're wearing swimsuits. And the opposite is also true. If you go with swimsuits that have no
v-shape at all, for example, the boy shorts, those are flat-legged, so these are going to immediately
make your legs look shorter because they create that horizontal line instead of the v-shape
for your legs. Now let's talk about layering. How can you use this illusion to make your outerwear
look better? And the key is to go with those that cinches your waist. When you're wearing an outerwear
with a belt, or maybe you add a belt, you are creating two v-shapes, and just like the optical illusion
has shown you, this is the most flattering shape. On the other hand, if you go with outerwear that has
no v-shape at all, for example, the double-breasted jacket or coat, this is going straight up and down
and it's expanding you horizontally, and this has no v-shape and therefore you'll notice it's much
less flattering. One of the biggest trends right now are the oversized boyfriend blazers. These are
so fashionable that most of us find it quite intimidating because they just look totally
overwhelming. But did you know that using this optical illusion, you can make it work? And the
way to do it is to add a belt. Again, by cinching your waist, you are effectively creating that
double v's in your outfit, and that's what makes it look super flattering. Here's another way that
you can apply this in your layering, and that is create that v-shape underneath. When you are
wearing a jacket or a coat, it doesn't matter what shape your outerwear is, if you are wearing a v
neckline under layer, the eye is still going to be able to see that v-shape, and that is still very
slimming and create that very flattering shape to elongate your entire body, make you look slimmer.
At this point, we do have one final piece of the puzzle, and that is pants and jeans. You might be
wondering, well Qi, how am I going to create that v-shape with pants and jeans? Yes, you can do it
through the leg shape. Whenever you are wearing a flare-shaped pants or jeans, that is creating
that inward-facing v-shape. I've mentioned in other videos before, flare-like jeans or flare-like
pants are one of the most flattering leg shape. Doesn't matter how tall you are, I'm fine too. If
you are shorter like me, these are heaven sent. They are fitted throughout your thighs and they
flare out under your knees. This shape is one of the most flattering leg shapes, no matter how tall
you are. Optical illusions can be a game changer no matter how tall you are, but if you are petite
like me, this can be especially helpful. And if you are shorter like me, you probably have noticed
that you have to pay more attention to anything you wear because of our height. I do have another
video for you, the 7 secret styling hacks that every short woman must learn. And these
are based on my own tried and true petite styling hacks. So I will see you in this video.
