Let's pretend we're dancing in the street
In Barcelona
Streetlights above this city is buzzing
Creatures that love getting lost
If there would be one city in Europe that I could visit more often, that would be Barcelona.
Barcelona!
We visited this city already a couple of times and it's one of those places where you have a sense of comfort like no other.
It combines beautiful architecture, the closeness to the seaside plus the amazing culture and great cuisine.
So it is for sure a top choice to visit in Europe.
And it has a bit of everything for every budget.
So of course for us, as we usually like to travel without overspending, we made out this schedule of places to see and things to do in Barcelona.
And let's start of course with the number one attraction in Barcelona, La Sagrada Familia.
This historical cathedral was designed by Antoni Gaudí, which was a famous Catalonian architect and designer, whose work is seen across different places in the city.
This church is still unfinished but could be completed by 2026.
It is a very unique style both on the outside as well on the inside and if you only have money and time to spend on a single attraction, this is the one worth your time.
Be sure to stay until the extra goodies section of this video to get a great tip on buying tickets to visit this place.
Park Güell is a famous park with mosaic benches, interesting architectural designs and a salamander.
This park was designed by, guess who? Of course, Gaudí as well.
It is a must-see attraction when visiting Barcelona, however only a limited number of visitors are admitted every hour.
So it is recommended to purchase your tickets in advance, especially during high season.
In our case, we actually didn't do this and we purchased the tickets until we arrived at the park,
so we were lucky enough to find tickets even though we were visiting in the beginning of the summer time.
This park is located on top of the camel hill, which has a very nice view of the city of Barcelona.
The Montjuïc mountain is located close to the city and is where the castle of Montjuïc is located.
The best way to reach the top is with the telefèric de Montjuïc, which is the funicular to the castle where you will enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Barcelona.
The castle itself has a very dark history as it was used in the past for many wars and revolutions
and it was also a prison and torture center repeatedly for more than 300 years.
Luckily now we get to see it as a museum and enjoy the spectacular view from the city above.
Further west on the Montjuïc mountain you will find the Olympic area.
This was the location for the 92 Barcelona Summer Olympic Games, where the famous dream team won the gold medal.
Over here you will find the Olympic Stadium, which when we visited last year looked like totally abandoned,
however at the moment it was renovated as it is being used as a temporary stadium for the Barcelona team, while the Camp Nou stadium is being renovated.
Also you will find other landmarks like the Communications Tower and a few other museums,
being the building for the National Museum of Art, the most beautiful one, as this used to be the National Palace.
From this location you will also find an impressive view of the city and the next place you will want to go to.
In the Plaza España you will find some interesting places, starting with the Venetian Towers.
The name comes of course from the similarity of these towers to the St. Mark's bell tower in Venice.
You will also find in the middle of the plaza the beautiful fountain monument and on one side the Arenas Mall,
which used to be a bullring until 1977 and reopened as a mall in 2011.
Going to the top here you will find a great view of the Plaza España and you will also have some nice restaurant options.
La Rambla is the busiest street in Barcelona.
It's the most touristy place in the city and the spot to get some souvenirs.
As it is the most crowded place to visit you need to be aware of pickpockets,
so be sure to pay special attention and don't be zombie walking with your phone out,
as we heard they quickly can take it from you and run away.
We actually stayed in a hotel right next to this street and even though we had a nice view to it, it was a bit loud to stay at.
I know some people don't recommend visiting the area, but I do believe it's a place to visit,
just need to pay special attention to your surroundings.
Also walking all the way to the end of the Rambla you will find the Columbus Monument and your next location.
In this area you will find the Marina, where you can take a boat tour for example,
or you will find the large shopping center Mar Magnum.
Also the largest aquarium in Europe is there and if you want to have some additional nice views of the harbour you can take the funicular.
We also found some nice restaurants in this place so it is a good place also to go eat.
Also right next to the Barcelona Port is the Barceloneta Beach.
This is one of the most popular and iconic beaches in Barcelona
and it's a nice location to walk around and enjoy a little bit of the beach side of Barcelona.
The Gothic Quarter is also a nice place to see.
This is located right next to the Ramblas and it has some very nice historic squares and the Barcelona Cathedral.
You should walk around these Pinterest streets and you can see a little bit more of what used to be Barcelona before.
La Boqueria Market is the next place to visit.
Officially known as the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria is one of Barcelona's most famous markets
and it's a great place to try some local food.
It's located just right next to the Ramblas and it has a history dating back to the 13th century where it began as an open-air market.
One last thing you can also see are the beautiful building apartments designed also by Antoni Gaudí,
the Casa Milà and the Casa Batlló.
Both of these buildings are a very beautiful example of modernism architecture that was designed by Gaudí
and just being on the outside of the buildings you will find the uniqueness of these structures.
You can buy tickets to go inside these buildings, however for us the price tag for the entrance was a little bit too high.
If you have additional time the Mount Tibidabo could be a good option to go visit.
This is a 500 meter high mountain located in the outer sides of Barcelona
and on the top you will find some nice attractions and a great view of the city from there.
Also if you are a football fan you can visit of course the Barcelona Camp Nou,
however right now it's under renovation and it will last until the end of 2025.
Still you could buy tickets to see the museum which is something we did on our first visit.
One location we have missed to visit already for the second time is the Parc de la Ciutadella and the Triumph Arc.
These are great places to visit for free, close to the city center and a perfect location to make some nice pictures.
One additional thing that you could also do in Barcelona if you have some extra days is going to the mountain of Montserrat
which there's a monastery located over there and it's a very nice place to visit.
In our case we have not yet been to this place but it's something we have on our list to do if we return to Barcelona.
Here is some additional tips I think it might be useful for your trip to Barcelona.
First for La Sagrada Familia don't go purchasing these tours that you find online in these major websites for traveling.
You can directly go to the Sagrada Familia website and book the ticket tours from there and you will save quite some money with it.
I will leave a link on the description to the official website and also a QR code that you can scan to look for it.
For Parc Güell if you also plan not to purchase tickets beforehand like we did be aware that you still need to purchase them online
and they're not sold by anyone at the entrance so you will need a phone with internet connection to do so.
One final tip I will give you is about the food.
I usually don't recommend people to eat in restaurants that are located right next to popular attractions.
Usually those restaurants the food is not very good and the restaurants in La Rambla is one example of this.
If this is your first trip around Europe be sure to check out my video of 10 tips when you first visit here.
