Joshua Tree National Park: Is it worth it?
We visited Joshua Tree National Park to explore the desert landscape. We weren’t expecting it to challenge and change us. We loved this park and would recommend it to anyone considering a visit.
Joshua Tree National Park is located in south east California where the Mojave and Colorado deserts meet. This unique transitional landscape is home to an array of animals and plants, but we didn’t see very many animals on our visit. In this park, the plants are the stars of the show. Joshua Trees, which are in fact a type of yuca and not a tree at all, are found mainly in the park’s northern area along with the majority of the other attractions. That doesn’t mean the southern parts of the park are any less interesting. We found the south part less crowded on busy days, and found some great hikes in and around the south visitor’s center.
There are a lot of camping options in and around Joshua Tree National Park. We chose to stay on the FREE camping at the BLM land just south of the park. There is also a free BLM camping north of the park. Outside of the park are some RV parks that offer full-hookups, and inside the park are several campgrounds that are ideal for smaller set-ups.
