Annyeong chingu!
I'm your main host, Professor Oh.
I'm Mami Oh.
We're in Koreatown, San Jose, for another round of
Kingdom Koreatown!
We're going to be trying out a place we've never dined at before.
What is it called, Mom?
Which in English, they call it Choi's Korean Restaurant.
It has no distinct signage on the front.
Let's see how packed it is.
It's 12.45pm.
It's Martin Luther King Day.
And it's somewhat packed.
Let's see what today's specials are.
Daily lunch special is $9.99.
We have dinner specials, and we're going to get ssambap
because this is what this restaurant is known for.
You get two choices of meat.
We ordered jeju bulgogi, spicy pork, as well as squid.
Make sure you use the wet wipes and clean your hands.
So we got our eight side dishes, as well as some sauces.
And whoa, they gave us like a veggie buffet over here.
It's a freaking forest.
Red leaf lettuce.
Did you say Korean ass carrot?
The sizzling squid had just came out.
Listen to that sound.
If steam was a god, I'm totally worshiping it right now.
We also got our spicy sizzling plate of pork.
Double sizzle.
Bubbly.
My mother put together a ssam.
What meat does that have?
Pork.
That was incredibly delicious.
There's a pork party in the mouth.
And now my body is sizzling.
It's getting real hot in here.
Now we're going to make ocean ssambap.
This is seaweed with rice and sauce.
Avocado in California ssambap.
It has a slippery texture.
Squid is slick as Michael Jackson's moonwalk.
Which one do you prefer?
The squid or the pork?
How do you eat that?
Dip it in your sauce.
What kind of sauce is that?
Dwenjang sauce.
They use that sauce to make this soup right here.
The doenjang jjigae.
Oh, that's a nice crunch.
But you need to be careful.
Sometimes it's like jalapeno spice.
What's on TV?
Let's do it.
One, two, three, four.
That's what it said.
Okay, let's do it.
One, two, three, four.
Let's try this doenjang jjigae.
It tastes kind of Mexican.
You gotta have it with your rice.
This restaurant has four TV screens.
One, two, three, and four.
We forgot to try our side dishes.
We're so distracted by the sizzles and steam.
I gotta open my packet of chopsticks.
Hard to work out.
I think you need to increase your sets.
Thank you.
Fish cakes.
Reddish.
Kimchi salad.
Potato.
Glass noodles.
Napa cabbage kimchi.
Soybean sprouts.
Radish kimchi.
This right here.
Ambitious piece of kimchi.
Mom, this is for you.
What was your favorite side dish here?
My favorite side dish here is the japchae and the radish kimchi.
Oh, thank you.
If you like spicy food, this Korean restaurant is for you.
Everything is spicy except for like one or two banchan.
My mother and I are sniffling from the spice.
The service here is a little bit more Korean style.
All right, before we finish eating,
we still have a bunch of food left, as you can see.
They'll give you your bill.
Yeah, it is better now.
Better than waiting for a meal.
So some people will take this gesture offensively.
Others will be thankful for it.
Just to be honest, just be thankful.
How many crowns did you give this place?
Four and a half.
What?
I gave it five crowns.
What would make it a five crown ssambap?
I wonder if it could take the leaves to go.
Mother, can you eat like a rabbit too?
No hands, that's the rule.
Good job.
Can I put in the video?
So my mother and I are quite full.
We are taking these to go.
And these could be our dinner even, actually.
We can make a salad out of that.
Typically when my mother takes things to go,
she makes her own concoctions.
What are you gonna make out of that, mom?
Maybe Korean spaghetti.
And that was our journey to Cheonggare.
So total the bill came out to be $49 USD.
It's pretty pricey, but then again,
we took some to go.
So it could make up to four meals for one person.
It's not pricey, but for lunch.
I know.
Pricey is relative.
If you make 100K per year, this is nothing.

Annyeong!
We're gonna go to a sheep cafe.
In dining situations,
the three most important characters are
Ju se yo.
Ju se yo means please give it to me.
Ju se yo.
Are you a bland to mild sort of eater?
Make your request.
Please don't make it spicy.
