ההשפעה של סין הקומוניסטית על האו"ם הובילה להוצאת טייוואן מכל הארגונים הקשורים לאומות המאוחדות, אבל 9 מבעלות בריתה של טייוואן פנו לאו”ם וביקשו מהארגון לאשר חזרה את השתתפותה של טייוואן במנגנוני האו"ם.
9 המדינות שתומכות בבקשה הן: בליז, ממלכת אסווטיני, גואטמלה, איי מרשל, פלאו, סנט קיטס ונוויס, סנט לוסיה, סנט וינסנט והגרנדינים וטובאלו. אף מדינה מאירופה או מצפון אמריקה לא הצטרפה למהלך.

More on China and the United Nations. Communist China's influence has led to Taiwan's exclusion
from all organizations related to the UN, but nine of Taiwan's allies sent a request to the
UN last week asking the organization to accept Taiwan's meaningful participation in the United
Nations systems. Most of those allies are developing countries in the Pacific Ocean
and the Caribbean Sea. None of the nine are from Europe or North America. Taiwan is located about
100 miles off China's east coast and has a population of 23 million. Its allies argue
these people should not be excluded from the UN. China is known to pressure other countries and
international organizations not to recognize Taiwan as an independent country. The Chinese
Communist Party sees Taiwan as its own despite never having ruled the island. Taiwan left the
UN as a permanent member of the Security Council in 1971. That's after the UN voted to accept that
Communist Party led China would take Taiwan's seat.
