Basel formed the backbone of Swiss vocal music in the 19th and 20th centuries. This recording is dedicated to composers who lived and worked in and around Basel and had a significant influence on the development of choral music. The programme traces the beginnings and development of this vocal high culture and presents hidden treasures of this vocal creation. Together with pianist Tobias Schabenberger, the virtuoso voices of the Basler Madrigalisten present a magnificent bouquet of beguiling sounds: a charming musical encounter from the Romantic period to the 20th century - as profound as it is humorous and always entertaining.

Basel bildete im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert das Rückgrat der Schweizer Vokalmusik. Ihr widmet sich diese Einspielung mit Komponisten, die in und um Basel gelebt, gewirkt und die Entwicklung der Chormusik massgeblich beeinflusst haben. Das Programm spürt den Anfängen und der Entfaltung dieser vokalen Hochkultur nach und präsentiert verborgene Schätze dieses Vokalschaffens.
