The secrets of the first warship

"The galley was the first warship. It was a combat weapon. The idea was to surprise the enemy ships, sail around them, surround them if they were isolated ships, and then ram them.

Smashing into the opposing ship meant ramming it at full speed. So the galley was shaped to glide over the waves.

But why was the galley soon abandoned?
