We just arrived here at Bidok and Marie Lapis is actually just beside the Bidok 538 market
and food center.
So it's literally just beside it and you will see this logo right away.
And Marie Lapis is quite new.
They started opening the restaurant during the COVID season which was around November 2020.
And this is out of Marie's passion.
Marie is the owner which is Pranakan herself who makes beautiful and amazing and handmade kueh.
She wants to share to people the culture, the recipes that has been passed down from generation to generation.
And so hence the opening of this restaurant.
And it's just a beautiful thing to see that you know despite COVID people are still able to do business.
And I am privileged to be here to support their business.
Their menu is composed of different types of handmade kuehs that is very labor intensive.
Like one kueh I think is it takes at least two hours to make one.
They make it traditional and handmade.
The concept is like Pranakan slash western.
So they have inserted a lot of different dishes.
It's kind of like a fusion of western Pranakan.
And so there's a lot of different dishes.
They have the ngoh hiang which is like a Chinese sausage roll that they mix with a pasta.
Then they have the onigiri.
They also have a taco dish.
But instead of using the usual beef, they use beef rendang instead on a taco.
Most of their dishes they use achar which is kind of like a pickle.
The version of kimchi here it's very very good.
And it goes well with savory dishes to kind of cut through and contrast the savoriness.
So it's got some tanginess, some spiciness in there.
They also serve nitro tea and coffee which is not that common here in Singapore.
And it's such a cool place.
It's small but it's very cozy.
And I like the ambience as well as the touch, the accents of the Pranakan stuff in there.
I think we're gonna start tasting the dishes in a few.
But I'm gonna start with some nitro tea.
So let's go inside.
