On October 13, 2015, Irshon gave birth to Canada's first giant panda cubs
as part of a worldwide giant panda conservation breeding program.
Giant panda babies are born in a very undeveloped state.
This is why the first 100 days of these twins' lives are so extremely critical.
Both in the conservation breeding program and in the wild,
giant pandas most commonly will only raise one cub at a time.
So zoo staff assist 24-7 with the raising of these tiny twins
by caring for one cub while the other is with mom.
This is called twin swapping and ensures both cubs have equal amounts of time with Irshon
to nurse and develop strong bonds.
And of course, mom gets some time to rest alone too.
It has been incredible watching these small cubs grow and develop over the past 100 days.
