What happened, little kitty?
Why are you so confused?
Many, many options what to choose.
I know, right?
I'm sure even the inventor of this yummy dish
wouldn't have thought about it.
I see.
To know that, stick around
as I will take you through the juicy story
The Invention of Burgers.
Zoom in!
Get ready to sink your teeth
into one of the most iconic sandwiches of all time
The Burger.
This delicious delicacy
is made up of a juicy patty of ground meat
placed in between two slices
of a soft, freshly baked bun or bread roll.
Over the years,
people started adding an array of toppings
and special sauces on it
that will have your taste buds dancing!
While the burger itself is incredibly popular,
the story of the hamburger's origin
is wrapped in mystery
as nobody is sure
when and where this dish actually came from.
As a result,
there were several people who are credited with inventing it
including Charlie Negreen,
Frank and Charles Menchies
and Oscar Weber Bilby.
However, most people believe
that the hamburger was invented by a man
named Louis Lassen in New Haven, Connecticut
in the year 1900
when a hungry gentleman
rushed into Louis' small diner
named Louis Lunch.
He was in a hurry
and asked Louis to make him something quick
and delicious to eat.
Louis, who was known for his quick thinking
and innovative approach to food
decided to create a sandwich
consisting of a ground beef patty
served between two slices of toasted bread.
He added a few condiments
and presented them to the hungry gentleman
who was delighted with the new creation
and thus the hamburger was born.
Then in a few years,
the burger's popularity
quickly spread across the United States
with diners and fast food restaurants
like White Castle
adding their own twist to the classic recipe.
Later in the 1950s,
the famous burger chain McDonald's was founded
and they revolutionized fast food
as burgers quickly became a staple of American culture.
Although Louis Lassen is often credited
with the invention of the burger,
some historians debate
whether he was truly the first person
to serve meat between two slices of bread.
That's because similar dishes were served
in other parts of the world
such as the Hamburg Steak in Germany
and the Beefsteak Sandwich in England.
On top of that,
it turns out,
chopped meat served between
or in side bread
is nearly as ancient as civilization.
But despite its unclear origins,
the hamburger remains a beloved and iconic dish
that is enjoyed by people of all ages
all around the world.
However,
the burger's popularity
has not been without controversy
as it is often criticized
for its high level of calories,
salt,
and unhealthy fats
which can contribute to weight gain,
heart disease,
and other health problems.
Plus,
in recent years,
there's been a growing trend
towards healthier and more sustainable options
such as chicken or plant-based burgers
with lots of fresh veggies
like lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado.
And remember my friends,
eating a balanced diet
that includes a variety of whole foods
including lean protein,
whole grains,
and lots of fruits and vegetables
is important for maintaining good health.
Though you can still enjoy a yummy burger
once in a while,
just remember to balance it out
with other healthy foods
and plenty of exercises.
Did you know
the name hamburger
originally derives from Hamburg,
the second largest city in Germany?
Also,
there are reports
that 14 billion burgers
are consumed by Americans each year
which averages to about
3 burgers a week.
Today's sketch of the day
goes to 10-year-old
Mariah Priscilla.
Hope you had fun today.
Until next time,
it's me, Dr. Binox,
Zooming out.
Why so many burgers?
It was the few sort of
every time.
Never mind.
