here's some really cool old
dodge trucks sitting side by side
anything in the glove box
nope
that's really cool
looks kind of
pretty much the same in there
but then what's
got that big piece of machinery looks
like ore would go in there looks like a
an orbit with a
so what's uh what's the story behind
this place
i don't know a lot about it i do know
that uh silver and lead were discovered
here in 1869
and then three years later a mining camp
grew up and there was a general store
and a post office so officially it is a
ghost town
okay so here's a little cabin there in
the distance
this is uh this is pretty amazing guys
it's a big piece of machinery and it was
on a trailer you can see the wheels
there
so this was brought out here
on a road
yeah and then if you saw the road with
all the switchbacks that uh
we took to come down here it makes you
wonder how they managed to get this
thing
exactly because look at that end get out
of the way so you can see it all
to that end and that was towed behind a
uh
a larger vehicle so i'm sure that weighs
uh
quite a bit
that's the most that must have been
something to see
coming through this mountain pass and
then here's another
large piece of machinery
it's got the same like or shoot
bin on the front
those look like maybe conveyors there's
a
piping going through so
and walked around the front just to show
you the other side
of this big long trailer and see some
steps going up to the different levels
very impressive piece of equipment
and this one was trying to hide from us
in the bushes
it's only the front of it unfortunately
the back's missing
i wonder if it was uh
because here's some
equipment over here i wonder if it was
just used
the engine to run some of this equipment
maybe
they are really beautiful aren't they
the way they were designed back in those
days
now what age would this be
40 50 between
that grow yeah i would say probably
sometime around then maybe
late 30s
to 40s era so here's that cabin we were
speaking of earlier
walk inside take a look
it's a shower face
that is
or somebody wanted to use that
[Music]
they had running water
that's really neat to see
[Music]
nothing all empty all empty
but i think this is where they would
have hung their teacups
oh the hooks are still in there yeah
so they're teacups and mugs
that one's stuck but that's empty
and then next we've got
the bedroom that nice shelf up above
that whole
wall there above the window so i've
noticed what they've done
is they've walled the
walls insulated the walls with cardboard
boxes
and then painted it twilight one color
here
they didn't do a very good job well they
they did made do with what they had no i
didn't mean that
i made the paint job
i see and they had a bathroom
and obviously the ensuite yep
so here yeah the oh the floor is really
bad so won't step in here
let's stay in the doorway so that must
be the shower
shower pan is outside
toilet sink and what's around the corner
it's got a chair
okay
be heading back outside some great stone
work here on this wall
unfortunately that has crumbled
a very tall post up there
looks like there's an insulator along
the top so it could have been electrical
pole
we've got quite a few more buildings to
explore
and then just across the way
there are some more stone foundations up
there
the bed is filled with tires
empty except for a plastic plate and a
can
it's been a storage little shed
trailer we'll peek into the door
oh roofs ceilings collapse through
couch on there
bunch of rubber
looks like serpentine belts
a little kitchen there's a view from the
front
looking all the way back
you can see like andrea said there are
tires up in there
i think there's one more door towards
that bedroom we can look in
here it is the last little section
on to the next building
a little corrugated metal structure
maybe for more storage
was a little bit interesting
okay a little workshop
area tons of coffee cans
and uh lot of trash
what's in here
just a little bit more
it's got a bucket full of old oil in
there
like radiator hoses and car parts and i
wonder if this
is
oh nope expecting it to be
the bathroom this one's got a vent over
the doorway
nothing inside anymore i got a pipe
coming out there
had some electrics
that's about it
and we'll make our way through
this little debris field
what was that i think it was a lizard
just made you just got me jumped one
caught me just now
this is pretty neat though you've got
tons and tons of jars
built around the huge rock and they've
used the rock
face as a wall at the back
that is really cool
now this one looks like a luxury cabin
i had a fence all the way around it
nice porch
it's got a few tin can lids
here and there i guess blocking up the
knots that have
fallen out of the wood yeah that's
possible
i don't know what these rings are
people have uh just found these and hung
them up on here
maybe although there's lots and lots of
nails so it looks like they did hang
things
little chair stove would have been right
here
you've got a cooker here a gas cooker or
at least a gas hog
hot water heater
and this wool
wow these are pretty uh i wonder when
these are from oh
i've got a date december 1952 i don't
know if you can get that
52 1952
oh that is great
let's sink the drawers
so i would imagine this would have been
kitchen
diner dining room yeah i would say
let's have a look in these
and cupboards old lino tiles
curling up on the edges
all the peeling paint that would be lead
paint wouldn't it if this was the 50s
yes
there's another
no dates
[Applause]
so again they've lined their walls with
cardboard for insulation
cardboard and they've got wallpaper over
the top of that
that floor is blowing really look at
some of those photos over there
some just inside the door here as well
so this would have been the bedroom
oh wow inside this cupboard
you've got like a key hang
[Applause]
it's got essay
essay gate office
cadillac pickup
was meant to be a chevy intel pickup
so they'd hang their keys keep them safe
and then this is a massive
massive bathroom the floor's okay here
i'll dress
toilet wash look at the basin
and then it looks like
maybe they might have no there's a door
i was going to say maybe they would have
had
a ball could have had a bath there
or maybe a shower in the corner
because of the way the at the walls
painted
so this is where the bath would have
been next to the toilet
you've got the hot and cold water but up
here
you've got a curtain rail
so they would have had a curtain privacy
curtain and
if you look up on the ceiling they've
got a hookup where you could
hang a shower
so it probably was one of those hot and
cold
water with a tap and then one of those
hand showers
that you could then hang up
that's my guess yeah
into the next room just to our left that
doorway
that was the bathroom we were just in
so that was like a jack and jill
bathroom having two entrances into it
so i wonder what this room would have
been it's got an outside door too
outside two outside doors
a lot of windows let in a lot of light
there's even an attic
or crawl space maybe just uh yes for
storage or something
i wonder if this was the fireplace
originally
it looks like it would have been
though i don't see uh it doesn't
continue up
into the the roof at all
strange isn't it because it does look
like it would have been a fireplace
but they've uh boarded it with cardboard
because on the other side that's those
cabinets
and one more room in here
see i've got an old argyle sock
and some denim above the door here
little closet space there
just a small room two windows
there you can see some wires some
insulators for electricity
this building
looks like that was a garage
the door there
if this was a garage
this would have been a little workshop
shed
perhaps and it would appear
we have found a grave
there's two next to each other
the other cross has fallen down
that there looks like another garage
[Applause]
just like the building down further we
checked out
it's built into the side of the rock
and the top little cubby
attached to another sizeable
cabin here
a single room out here the window
looking right into the garage
again cardboard the insulator of choice
and here we've got cement
yeah nice concrete screened in porch
very nice porch
very large window
so the stove would have been in here
this had been the kitchen
doggy door a living room maybe possibly
living room
by the size and the large window over
the porch
oh there's a remains of a
dead animal yeah just a skin i
have no idea what that is
diamond shaped window that's um that's
different
the roofs really sagging i don't want to
walk through that way
no it doesn't look very very secure
and here look at the wood paneling on
the wood slats
for the wall
so that looks like that could have been
the kitchen
[Applause]
there's a door going out to the back
maybe we'll walk around
i see some papers up there
on into the next room
that's weird flooring this definitely
looks like it was a bedroom got some
shelves there
a little closet
[Applause]
some more shelves
this was a nice cabin
and another door
this is a nice bright ring
[Music]
very much so great windows
that door just leads back out to the
goes back to the patio
so i wonder what this room was i think
my
would this have been another bedroom
would that have been
a a wardrobe in the corner
yeah something's definitely missing from
there that's what
that would be a place to have it so this
yeah could have been a
another bedroom potentially they've got
a huge loft space
i don't know if there's anything up
there
some critters
and this has got to be the bathroom
and it still has the bathtub and toilet
and sink
it's even got the toilet roll paper
and a dish dish for the soap
toothbrushes
medicine cabinet light bulb is still
intact
that's pretty amazing this is yeah
that's great
hot water heater piece of paper on the
floor
special distribution retirement security
plan
effective november 1st 1959.
i don't know if you can down the bottom
right at the very bottom
i don't want to get
this is the other side of that yeah it's
a bit stinky
potential kitchen
this is just tons of paperwork about
there's a security balance sheet june
placed
ledges
no date
there's a date here
may 1st 1964.
that's the cabin we've just left we came
out that door that's where the hot water
heater was
right next to all that paperwork
there's another cabin up there
go check it out and this is what is
inside
absolutely nothing
this cabin here i love the ceiling
old newspaper and magic magazine
articles
make for an interesting read bedtime
and then in here i'm gonna try not to
get my shadow in the way
we're gonna get some of it though
i'll dress her with drawers
here's that main room the same cabin
as you can see
they continued with the newspaper the
magazine print
on the ceiling and there right in the
center of the screen
i have two gentlemen in world war ii
regalia
let's hope they made it home safe
a bunch of metal pieces and things on
the floor here
old vent pipe from the stove
it's missing now
looks like an electrical box up there
unfortunately this cabin has been
ransacked it would appear
looks like we're going to end this
explore
with a trip to the bathroom
oh or not
it's not the bathroom oh it's
really strong smelling of oil
yeah old oil you see it's saturated in
the uh
the lumber here
hello everyone it is steven and andrea
from pin in the atlas
and andrea has done it again
we have found quite a remarkable sight
way out in the hills
[Music]
