This beautiful mare is Raina. Raina is a two-year-old Andalusian filly,
and she came into my life just this year. Having her has been an unexpected gift and a dream come
true. I want to share with you a little bit about how we began our journey together.
Raina was born and raised in California. Her father and her mother are both registered Andalusians.
When I first got Raina, she made the long trip from California to Ohio.
Raina came directly from the breeder and had very little handling when she first arrived.
Because her contact with people had been so minimal, she was very anxious around people
at the beginning and nervous in her environment. Once Raina settled in, I began spending time with
her out in her pen, just getting her used to my presence. She was very apprehensive about being
touched or having me anywhere near her at the beginning. But over time, she started to become
curious about me and began coming up on her own. She's a very sweet-natured girl, and before long,
I started playing around with her with the halter and lead line. Because she's curious, I just took
my time with this and let her investigate until she became confident with the halter and lead.
After getting her to a place where she could confidently be led, it was time for us to start
a new chapter together. I was really proud of how confidently Raina loaded into the trailer
and how willing she was coming out of it. This is our first experience walking into the barn
and seeing all the new horses, and she's been such a brave girl. As time went on, Raina started getting
more and more used to the routine at the new barn. I began working with her on getting confident
standing quietly to be brushed, and because I had more room to work with her, I was able to start
working with her more and more on the ground and introducing things like obstacles. At the beginning
in our groundwork, Raina has her moments where she'd be pretty excited. She's just two years old
and she has her baby moments, but she's very thoughtful, and if you take your time with her,
pretty soon she gets to a place where she relaxes and starts investigating things.
Working with obstacles is a lot of fun. It really allows me to get to know Raina
in some different environments with some different challenges and help her to build her confidence
and build her relationship with me. Here's her first time seeing the tarp, and you can see she's
pretty worried about it, but after spending some time together, she got to the place where she was
willing to walk over it calmly. Raina loves her herd and enjoys playing out in the field
and has settled in with everybody really well. It's great to see her in such a relaxed and happy state.
As Raina and I spend more and more time together, I'm getting to know her better
and better and building a stronger connection. If you like this video,
